So, any fellow writers on here?

I'm unpublished, as of now, with a novel and a few short stories in the works. Usually do fantasy and gay male romance (usually both at the same time), but I'm not opposed to playing around with other genres. Anyone else?

Uhm... If poetry and lyrics count then yes. It's so cool you're a writer though!

I want to go to college to be a journalist of some sort. I like to write about sports, and I seem to have a knack for writing tragedies, as my English teacher has said. I also wrote an essay on gay marriage and got a 100% A on it

Totally all count. All words, you know? I have no talent for poetry so I've got to commend you for that but thanks. :") I figure, those who can't do, write.

My day job consists of about 80% writing, with a chunk of editing thrown in at times.

I do some writing and editing as something of a hobby (or a favor to friends) outside of work. SF mostly.

I've just completed a one-year certificate in journalism and I am hoping to pursue a career in that field or corporate or non-profit communications. I would definitely like to write a novel at some point in my life - either biographical or historical fiction.

@Paradox: Cool! Actually been considering career in journalism myself. But yeah. Nothing like writing a perfect essay, eh?

AKTodd: Sounds like my dream job. Love editing...anything except my own work. So what do you do anyway?

Irish: Why not now? Takes research and an idea but if you want to write, just go for it.

It's a pretty awesome feeling. Especially when it changed my teacher's mind on gay marriage.

I love writing, although I don't have any writing courses or anything under my belt.

I have two books that sell on Amazon, and seven eBooks that sell on Amazon/Smashwords. Also five DVDs I did (educational) that are for sale, download, rent etc.,

I'm currently working on three novels, and two other projects:
    1) A book of ten short stories (around 2000 words each)
    2) A book of five children's stories (around 1500-2000 words each)

I enjoy entering competitions, when they're free, but haven't won anything so far.

I've not attempted any gay themed stories yet, but have read them online.

I am a story teller. I've been writing stories since I learned to write my name. I was just talking earlier about writing in fact, telling my friends how much I enjoyed working on stories that are directly inspired by specific songs. Whenever I get a story idea from a song, it feels like an outline I haven't even written yet is being sung to me. It's a very nice feeling. I drabble, which to me is like writing unpoetic "poetry" or short commentaries with a slight poetic flow--mini stories, I suppose I would call them. I sometimes dabble in actual poetry, but only when I'm in a certain head space, which is a head space I admittedly don't like to be in a lot. Most of the time, the drabbles and poems I write end up being a part of a larger story or working as a sort of starting point for a new story or even become the outline for a story. I love words and I love all forms of writing. My main thing is just telling stories. My love is creating characters and inventing lives.

I would LOVE to write. I have so many stories inside my head just waiting to get out. but my typing and writing skills don't seem to be fast enough to catch up to the stories running through me. I am much more a vocal storyteller then a writer I guess. But I'm going to try using a MP3 voice recorder and see if I can capture some of them to dictate to the computer later.

I'm not sure if this counts, but I keep a daily journal that includes my personal thoughts, personal feelings, and day-to-day occurences whenever I don't have internet access or if it is just too personal to find support online. Just another outlet. But I write it in short story form from a first person perspective.

I'm an aspiring writer (learning to write short stories). I have started to expand on an inciting incident and hope that it will be the base for a short story down the road. Listening to an interview on the radio, gave me some ideas on developing it further.

Besides that, I journal on a regular basis.

I do a bit of writing as a hobby and a bit of poetry as well, most of it is fairly poor quality but I mostly do it as a vent.
I mainly write about suicide and darkness, when I'm feeling low writing has been my way of venting and helping me feel better.
I've had a fair amount of positive feedback on my stories but I don't really have any plan in the future to take writing to the next level, its just a hobby for me

I am a published writer of nonfiction, albeit with modest--very modest--success. So modest that if I had to live off the earnings, I'd be on the street, starving.

I have also written a lot of fiction. I have made attempts at publishing short stories, but with no luck, alas. (That market is tough.) I have failed and uncompleted novel attempts, too, one of which was "sort of" completed during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month.) It's not complete, but at least what's there has a start, an end, and 50,000 words connecting the two.

I write poetry. I've had several poems published, but haven't had much time to write lately. I was also working on a novel at some point. I'm hoping that I'll have more time to write this summer once school is over.

I'd be ashamed to call myself a writer, seeing as anything more than a dozen lines long almost certainly goes unfinished. But I have a deep passion for writing, and publishing my novel would be a crowning achievement of my life. I get all sorts of compliments; see my thread "A Fire Among the Snows" in the entertainment section, which is basically about young gay cavemen XD. Somebody said it sounded like an excerpt from a real book, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Now I just have to finish it before it enters literary purgatory.

A writer is a person who writes.

Completion is a nice thing. It's hard to publish an unfinished novel or story. But those unfinished works--at least the ones that litter my computer hard drive--have done a lot of good. I've learned from them.

One work that has been a work in progress (off and on) since 2001 is of particular value to me. I learned a lot from it, both for basic writing skills, and also it has taught me lessons about myself. Take one good guess what made me do some Googling in February that turned up this site....

I would say that I'm glad you are pursuing a career in journalism. However, I think that you should go to school for a bachelor's degree - this will help you get a job and have more experience. I have been working in the news industry for 3 years now and know that it is a risky business with little payoff financially. The people who work in it love it:slight_smile: . Keep working on your journalism and good luck to your career! Yes I'm a writer... I like to write fantasy and I write short movies that involve psychological thrillers.
