Okay so my mom has been annoying me. She keeps insisting that all pedophiles are gay but not all gay men are pedophiles. I was like that's the stupidist (not a real word lol) thing I've ever heard! What about all the men that rape little girls? She goes to this class that my church holds that teaches you counseling. The pastor has counseling degrees. But I guess she learned that there. She thinks that all the "professionals" on gays say so. What do you all think?

That all paedophiles are gay goes against every grain of common sense that I can only assume that your mum for some reason wants to believe this. If your mum (or rather this pastor) was correct, then no underage girl has *ever* been molested or raped by a man, and no underage boy has ever been molested or raped by a woman. Which is absurd!!

Some paedophiles are straight, some are gay; most are straight I would think, as most people are straight. What about countless episodes of father-daughter or other horrific abuse??

I'm really sorry that your mum feels this way and that this puts you in this situation. But you are correct in not believing her or this pastor - who is wrong, wrong, wrong wrong, and spreading misinformation and lies, with the sole aim of discrediting homosexuals, WHO ARE NOT PAEDOPHILES.

Well, here's the deal. A lot of folks in the anti-gay camp like to announce that all pedophiles ARE homosexuals, even the ones that molest girls! The claim is that pedophilia is some sort of outgrowth of homosexuality - that if the homosexuality isn't "kept in check", the sexual perversion runs rampant until the man starts attacking children, animals, you name it.

To us gays'n'bis, obviously, this sound ridiculous. But to them, it's not as crazy as all that. They have trouble wrapping their brain around the fact that someone would find someone of their own gender sexually exciting, and thus feel "so what's to prevent these same people from having sex with children? Or animals?" To them, it's a natural progression - from one taboo to another. To us, it's like "Uh, hardly".

Yeah I tried telling her how obnoxious that is. But she won't listen. Every single person I've said this to, even homophobes, have agreed with me in saying that that statement is ridiculous.

Well it's unfortunate that you're mother is as 'close-minded' about this as she is. You need to simply break her perceptions by continuing to be a great kid and a great son.

I wouldn't take her crap though. If statements like that continue, I'd simply say that she is entitled to her opinion, but you don't believe it and you'd rather she kept those inaccurate statistics to herself.
