Although this is funny, there is a serious aspect to it as well.

It is surprising the number of straight men I have met who think that 'lesbian' porn is genuine and it colours their concept of what being lesbian is.

I remember two incidents in particular over the years which, while funny on one level, were far from funny on another level.

One of my best friends told me that many years ago this drunk guy tried to chat her and her partner up in a bar in London. They told him that they were lesbians, and instead of putting him off it made him all the more interested. He actually asked them if he could come back to their place and promised that 'I only want to watch'. He clearly had no idea that lesbians are not lesbians just for his entertainment.

The other case I remember was when I used to do telephone counselling years ago for the local GLBT helpline. This straight married guy rang up wanting a list of lesbian bars where he and his wife could go looking for a third party for a threesome. He honestly had no idea how offensive it would be for him to turn up at a lesbian bar looking for a threesome . I tried my best to talk him out of it... I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall if he actually went ahead .

I can imagine that if I was a lesbian I would be seriously pissed off at this phony lesbian ideal that many men have.

 

Funny and obviously well-meaning and light spirited so I'm not attempting to be insulting to anyone, but it made me a little bit uncomfortable? Like how "she's obviously straight because she can take a lot so she's had a penis in her" (paraphrased!) felt a little bit erasing of bisexuality & pansexuality and a little bit transphobic (penis = man).
