I am a major horror movie fan. I think I've seen almost every horror movies worth watching except some zombie movies. These are my top 20 (this far). Are you into horror? Please give me your top 20, top 10 or top 5. I would love to know which scared you most, and maybe you'll show me something I've not seen yet? :icon_twis

    1: The shining
    2: The strangers
    3: Misery
    4: 1408
    5: Silence of the lambs
    6: the exorcist
    7: Suspiria
    8: Psycho
    9: The thing
    10: The others
    11: IT
    12: The grudge
    13: The orphanage
    14: Halloween 1
15: A nightmare on elm street
    16: Saw 1
    17: The texas chainsaw massacre
    18: The hitcher
    19: Orphan
    20: The ring

(Misery, Silence of the lamb and the hitcher are not really horror movies, but they're close enough, and really to good to be replaced by anything)

^ Great list!! Of the ones you listed, I've seen 1,3,4,6,10,12,17,19, and 20. The Shining and 1408 are two of the scariest films I have ever seen. Stephen King is a genius of the horror genre. I can't even read his books before bed because the imagery is so vivid and haunting.

Here is my list, with some duplicates from yours included lol (And in no particular order).

    1. 1408
    2. The Shining
    3. Triangle
    4. What Lies Beneath
    5. The Woman In Black
    6. The Haunting (I know it's more of a comedic horror but as a kid it scared the hell out of me lol)
    7. The Ring
    8. Gothika
    9. Shutter Island
    10. The Sixth Sense

I probably have more I could list as well, but those are the ones that really stick out in my mind. Out of the ones I listed, it's hard to say which one scared me the most. It's been quite a number of years since I watched some of them. The Sixth Sense has always disturbed me a lot, so it's definitely in the top 3. 1408 and What Lies Beneath probably round out the top picks. I'm sure if I watched all of them again, I'd easily be able to choose which one scares me the most lol.

    1. When a stranger calls
    2. Paranormal activity three (only one that I liked, mostly due to that friggin sheet scene)
    3. Halloween (original)
    4. Friday the 13th (original)

Well thank you! I have actually not seen 'What lies beneath', sounds scary! And I've only seen the 1999 version of The haunting, witch was horrible! I have read the book though, really good  And oh yes, Stephen is the King of horror. I think I've read The shining 6 times now. He really builds up the mood slowly but steady util you are ready to crawl out your skin and can't stop reading. (!)

I totally agree with you, the third one was absolutely the best, due to the circulating camera I think. And the fact that they didn't wait until the last 10 minutes until something happened.
And the remake of friday the 13th was more laughable than scare, so cliche!

You're from Stockholm but you don't have Let The Right One In on your list? If you actually count it as a horror film, that is.

    9/10
    28 Days Later
    [REC]
    Martyrs
    Saw I
    Calvaire
    Let The Right One In

    8/10
    [REC] 2
    Wolf Creek
    The Descent
    Dread
    Donkey Punch
    Dead Set
    The Wicker Man
    The Hills Have Eyes

    7/10
Black Water (as opposed to Dark Water)
    Eden Lake
    Final Destination 3
    Cabin Fever
    The Cabin in the Woods
    Haute Tension
    The Fly
    Scream
    28 Weeks Later

Lots of comedy-horror in there, I realise.

How about Legend with Will Smith and the one it was based on Omega Man with Charlton Heston?

That movie traumatised me. I went to see it with a group of my then-housemates and ultimately, we all ended up having to sleep on the floor in the same bedroom that night. Granted 3 of them were girls, but the other 2 guys were real jock-types and even they didn't want to be alone in the dark after it

For me the Ring, Alien and Exorcist III are scary while movies like the Thing are just enjoyable to watch.

Not really a horror film by today's standards, but I sure love Jaws. My dad said that film scared the crap out of people and no one wanted to get in the ocean after it came out.

No I don't count it as horror, or even thriller. I think it's a beautiful love-story, might be because I read the book first. You like the torture romantic gore movies I see? God, I guess I'll have to watch 28 days later if you rated it number one, but I think zombie movies generally sucks...

Haha I watched Blair Witch project when I was 10 and I honestly thought it was real found fotage. I was fucking terrified of going into the woods after that. Fuck hollywood for scaring children, don't they know that i they wite "based on acctual events" the kids will think everything is true? x)

They generally do! Except this one. It's not perfect by any means (one actress in particular is awful), but you'll see by its second half that it's not really about zombies anymore, it's about human nature.

Orphan is not the best horror movie made, I think the reason for it's high ratings is the fantastic acting the little girl. She was increadible as a child villain. The ending bugs me though, I hated (SPOILER) that she turned out to be 30 years old, it cracked me up real good.
