Am I the only one who noticed that alot of the people in LGBT smoke alot? I was at a gay bar in last night and well everyone was smoking outside, and being slightly drunk I ended up smoking before I hooked up (I know that is bad) .

I dunno its just there were so many people outside smoking there than in a non-lgbt bar, maybe it was just coincidence

I went to a gay club once, and the majority of the people were inside. Of course, there were a lot of straight girls there (I'm boss at picking out the straight chicks in a gay club), but when I went outside to smoke, I didn't see a whole lot of people out there. Most people were just inside dancing or watching the drag show. However, I've never been to a gay bar, so I guess I can't say for sure.

I have noticed that. It seems like there is a higher percentage of smokers in the gay community.

My opinion on smoking is pretty much that the scientists who came up with ways to make it more addictive need to be tried for crimes against humanity.

Smoking is bad for your health. All the research points to it being bad. I don't judge people who smoke (I mean, it's an addiction, so by definition, people know it's unhealthy and want to stop, but they can't), but I really hope they can get help to quit.

We want you all around in 50 years...

Meh. I think it's more to do with the place.

I've been to both normal clubs and gay bars. Neither seemed remotely different in the smoking department; alcohol and social occasions tend to bring out the 'social smokers' in people. People that professed they would never smoke, usually end up smoking on a night out, and my experience in my favourite club (straight club, not a gay bar) is that the smoking area is packed while the actual club is usually only half full.

So no, I don't think there's a higher percentage of smokers in the gay community (and judging by this forum, definitely not haha), but there is a definite higher percentage in climate smoking. You just kinda... end up doing it. Alcohol, friends and smoking all seem to go hand in hand. D:

In fact, it's one of my biggest hurdles in quitting. Every time I quit completely cold turkey, I go on a night out and end up smoking easily 20 in that night and have to start all over again.

If social smoking wasn't so acceptable, I'd have quit by now for sure haha.

Yes I am the only queer person I know that doesn't smoke. I have probably tried it like 3 times in my entire life, deeerp.

I actually know a couple transgirls that smoke and I'm always like don't you know how unhealthy and bad for your blood pressure that is on HRT? deerp, if you are going to go DIY which I totally get at least do it right...

My main friends group, which is 12 people (I'm the only queer one), 9 smoke (including me). So for the sake of generalization, 8 heterosexual people smoke, so 66% of that sample group.

Now I know 7 gay guys and 2 lesbians. Neither of the girls smoke, and only me and one other guy smokes. So only 2 out of 10.

Obviously a really bias and not-sciency example, but it holds true to my own experience. I just don't think there's a correlation between smoking and queer people, haha.

Well, you're not 80. Of course it doesn't attract you in the slightest. How that translates to "I don't want to live to be old" though, is something I really don't understand.

    ---------- Post added 23rd Jun 2013 at 02:43 PM ----------

I don't smoke (cigs) and where I live I don't see any more prevalence of smoking among LGBT people than I do the rest of society.
