I was truly appalled at the amount of people on my facebook friend list that were posting "one man, one woman" graphics on facebook. I think that this made my thoughts clear to them. It will be interesting to see the responses that I get.

    Good for you.

Also, I always see those graphics as "one person in pants and one person in a skirt".

Marriage shouldn't be defined by what gender roles play. it should be about spending the rest of your life with someone you love

one man one women? Sounds like they believe in the sanctity of marriage. I would; however, like to know how many of them divorce though. I mean if you believe in the sanctity of marriage, you cannot believe in divorce.

And gay marriage opponents certainly have divorced: Newt Gingrich (who helped author DOMA) has had three wives, and left one to cheat with another, while the first had cancer.

John McCain did the same, leaving his first wife after she was in a disabling car accident, to marry a very wealthy woman and liquor heiress, some 20+ years his junior.

So much for 'in sickness and in health' and 'until death do us part'.

LOL I can use this in my book of defense if I ever get caught in such a quandry

    ------------------------------------

I was thinking of incorporating this [the original post by OP] when I come out on Facebook (and that I will more easily be able to)

Yeah, that's what I usually see them as too. But this one had "one man, one woman God's plan" written on it. So, it was more that the "usual" one of those posts.

Yeah, that's what they believe in. Since most of them have had at least one divorce... so they clearly have some holes in their logic..

Yep. I'm waiting. It will be nice to have these people gone.

    That was a well-written rant.

I've actually yet to see those "one man one woman" images though, but I don't have a facebook or any of that stuff so I guess I'm not up to date to all the ridiculous images being thrown around.

I haven't had any of those, surprisingly, or anything against DOMA being ruled unconstitutional, for that matter. I was quite ready to prune my friend list, too.

Very well-written rant. I'd be honored to have half the balls you do (both literally and figuratively). I'm so glad you posted this.

I don't have Facebook anymore, and now I'm even more glad that I don't. A lot of my "friends" were people I knew from church or Bible club in high school. I would have found myself in the middle of an epic shit storm. That's why I'm comfortable hiding on this forum.

I'm beginning to think I'm the only one that doesn't have THAT many homophobic friends on their Facebook. Maybe its because I go to a liberal school and they know how to handle it or they just don't shove beliefs down people's throats.

I have a lot of friends (mostly friends of parents) who are over 30 years old and they'll just about post nonstop political things, my own Dad included.

Thankfully, I have so many friends who are for marriage equality, LGBT and not. In fact, one of those parent's friends who posts nonstop political things posts lots of things that have to do with marriage equality. It's only here, Youtube and Yahoo where I see the "one man one woman" things.

Back on topic, talk about a drop count of friends! I do hope it's not too many?

I actually only have a few. An aunt, an uncle, and a few cousins, and I see all of them very often...

I make sure to "like" every equality picture just to make them mad :icon_twis

Ooo yes, let's get back on topic.
OP: I would like to know the drop friend count once it has seemed to have leveled out

I had a facebook and had a surprisingly large amout of homophobic friends at just 13 years old, since I am not out to the anyone but my mom I could not post something like this. I give a round of applause to you. I hope that you don't lose too many friends, although if these people knew that you were gay why would they post such horrible remarks towards you and the people like you. Lastly, I do not think that any homophobic person have the balls that they say they do to delete a perfectly normal person from their friends list simply because they believe that the right to marry someone of the same sex should be aloud. If this law doesn't get passed then you should write another awesome facebook post thanking all homophobic people for taking your rights away simply because god said it wasn't aloud to marry same sex people. You should write down all of your friends if you don't have to many, and see who deleted you.

Sorry to hear that your assertive status update was even needed. Most of my fb friends are thrilled with the ruling. The ones that may not be haven't posted anything. Does this mean I'm connected to good people?

I have 375 friends right now. I haven't lost any yet, but I'm guessing that a lot of people were already in bed when I posted this. So we'll see what happens in the morning.
