Out of the blue, randomly in my head, I remembered that episode of Ugly Betty where Hilda found out her son Justin, was gay, and she threw him a coming out party and Marc had to fix everything before Justin found out about it, at least, that is how I remember that episode, it's been a long time since I've seen it, so I don't remember it that well. It was TOTALLY random, about 10 minutes ago I was lying in bed and that episode popped into my head, then I started wondering, have any of you guys had a coming out party? Not sure if I'll have one, sounds a bit too... flamboyant for my tastes anyway
Um... Coming out parties just make a bigger deal out of sexuality and/or gender than it actually is. That's how I feel, anyways. Sit coms are supposed to be silly like that, anyways, though. =) To answer your question, no, I haven't. If anyone else has... that'd be interesting.
Im almost positive no one actually has those. Sexuality isn't THAT BIG, it doesn't really need it's own event.
I feel like a party would cheapen the event really. It's a very personal, emotional experience, not something that should be commercialized.
I've never seen or heard of any of those. I personally wouldn't want to have one, either, because it to me would be making a big deal out of nothing.
Oddly enough, weddings are often like that, and yet... they're sensationalized. I see what you mean, of course, but that's just a thought I had.
Yea I think that's just a desperate cry to get it out there that you like men/women or men and women. Funny thing is the only time I ever heard of Ugly Betty was at MGM Studios.. Which was and still is Hollywood studios.. It was my first and only trip to Disney, ironically with a church youth group that I had voluntarily been going to, to which I had an Ugly Betty burger which was a tourist money trap for a damn burger with onions on it.
I agree, but man, a coming out party would mean you knew enough supportive people who would actually come. I'd kill to have one of those. My coming out party would be a bunch of gay-bashing and "You're going to hell!"
I didn't know that there was such a thing as a coming out party. Though they seem like too much of a big deal for me and I don't think I'd like all the attention.
Sounds way too extreme, haha. And I'm not really a 'party person'. I've never even had a birthday party.
