i wouldn't, and like to think that i don't already

with more *traditional* names like Lincoln and Mabel becoming increasingly popular, as opposed to the likes of Tyler and Kylie, perhaps more people are beginning to see the benefits of having a more, lets say, affluent name, than one which supposedly implies a working class background. what is behind this phenomenon? conversely, why are "unusual" celebrities names still relatively popular then?

    That woman is plain awful!!

What I usually do when seeing a kid with a weird name is wondering "Is it in honor of his/her grandpa/grandma or something?" or "Does the family come from a different country?" but it doesn't go beyond that.

By the title, I thought you meant disliking a person because he/she has the same name as another person you already know and hate

Certainly not, how stupid, yes the woman in question often talks out of her backside and doesn't care about a single person other than herself.
That's UK daytime television for you !
It's a bit like saying, oh that eats brown bread and because of that I don't like them.
    Absolutely stupid woman.

No, I judge their parent(s) though - they're the ones that lumped that horrible name on their poor child.

It might make me wonder what the parents are like, but I wouldn't judge them before I had met them! How can you!? They are kids!!!

In Germany this phenomenon is called Kevinism (or the female form Chantalism).
There have been (more than a few) studies that showed that certain names were connected to certain social backgrounds and teachers for example subconsciously estimated someone called Kevin less intelligent than someone called say Michael before they even met them. Also if they had an Daniel (for example) in a class before and he was always disrupting lessons they would automatically link the next Daniel to this behaviour.

    Of course not.

    Unless it's dating wise.

I don't think I could be with someone named Tim or someone who has my dad's name.

    Is this woman serious. Lol.

To answer the question, no. I don't really care about names. I just wouldn't date someone with the same name as myself or my parents' names.

No. I don't think names are a very good gauge in judging a person's personality. There are certainly names that make me cringe because of individual people I meet, but I've never made a sweeping generalization about people with a particular name. In fact, this is the first time I've ever heard someone doing this. The last thing we need is ANOTHER way to discriminate against someone.

That said, the only time when I have a negative reaction to a name is if its difficult to say or spell. Its just because I like to get names right, and I feel terrible if I keep stumbling over the same syllables. Its not fair to them, and I think it would be disrespectful to keep saying it wrong.

It'd be fairly awkward for me, if say in a situation where things were getting hot and heavy, and moan out your boyfriend's name, which also happens to be your father's, or brother's. Or even your own name..

..I'd be very uncomfortable with that.
