Is he gay??

    Okay so last year I had like the biggest crush on this one guy. I thought he was straight so I just left it alone. But sometime near the end of the year, him and my friend were talking and somehow he asked him if he was gay. He said yeah, but he said it in a sarcastic mood. I didnt think much of it. Then this year everybody keeps telling me that he is gay. Today he walked by me and lookd me up and down and smile. So I dont know. What do you guys think?

    Well since he didn't seem to have a problem being asked by other people, perhaps you could just ask him?

    It's really quite difficult to tell without it coming from him!

    It really depends in what way he was sarcastic. It could have been a "yeah, why does it matter?" response or it could have been a "yeah, whatever. I'm not" response.I think rather than assuming he is or straight or gay you should just ask him. Assuming somebody is gay can be just as damaging as assuming that somebody is straight. Tis easier to ask and see if he is comfortable answering. :wink:

    It sounds like he could be, but these things are never foolproof.

    I would ask him. He's clearly not going to be totally offended by it or start having a go at you for asking. I'd definately ask him.

    Yep...you should ask him seeing that others have done. What have you to lose? And then you can stop guessing (nothing worse than guessing). You never know, you may get the reply you want!!

    I would ask him. The risk is getting another sarcastic, non-definite answer, in which case you'll have to decide whether to leave it there or reply with something like "are you serious?"

    I'm assuming that you're not out to him, so asking the question may prompt him to ask you back. You need to think how to answer, especially if his answer is "no." On the other hand, if you think there's a high chance his answer is positive, maybe you could say something like "so, it seems we have more in common that we thought."

    Well, we only know what you know. Things look promising, but I don't think anything's definite as of yet. According to your profile, you're out to "everybody but parents", so perhaps you can use that to your advantage. Strike up a conversation with him, and say, "I've heard some people say you might be gay. I kinda hope you are, because I'd love to have another gay guy to talk to."

    He may very well be questioning or in the process of accepting himself. People go in and out of the closet and are accepting of themselves one day and not the next. So it could be that, or he could just be sarcastic... or he could be straight and cool about joking around.

    No harm in asking, but pay close attention to how he responds when you ask. Accept whatever answer he gives you, but if you sense that he's gay and not clear with himself about it yet, don't push, just give it some time.

    I saw the OP had posted in F&G and that it was his second post. I thought, "Well, he's new, perhaps I should say hello" and searched for the other post, read it, and responded...not noticing that the post was 14 months old. Never seen anyone take over a year to post for the second time. :slight_smile:
