I decided to rip the band-aid off, so to speak, and while discussing some homophobe on TV, I told my mom that I'm a lesbian. I really feared she would be angry or disgusted. At first she laughed, like she thought I was kidding, so I said "no, I really am!" She said she's shocked, but that it explains why I'm still single at 44. LOL I'm so relieved. She's fine with it. I doubt it will go as well with my dad (we've never been close or ever talked about feelings or anything going on in my life), but since my mom knows, I can now just come out to the world. No one else's opinion matters to me. The people I love the most know, and they accept me for who I am. This is the best day ever! :icon_bigg
That's great to hear! I'm really happy for you. I need to have the courage to do that. Blessings to ya!
Congratulations! It looks like you picked the perfect timing for coming out to your mom as well. Glad to read that it has also given you the motivation to be out to the world. Happy for you that it went so well.
Thanks! It was scary, and obviously it took me forever to come out to myself, let alone anyone else. You'll know when you're ready. My advice, if I'm even qualified to give any yet, is to come out during a natural conversation about LGBT issues. All the times I thought about just blurting it out randomly, I chickened out. This time I felt like it might be ok, so I just took a deep breath and said it. Don't rush yourself. ---------- Post added 3rd Sep 2013 at 09:35 AM ---------- Thanks! I feel so great! I outed myself privately to my nephew and best friend, then on FB. ---------- Post added 3rd Sep 2013 at 09:37 AM ---------- Thanks! I'm sure you'll get there. Just don't rush yourself, and make sure you feel safe when you do it. I wish I had known/been honest with myself when I was your age. I feel like I've missed out on so much.
Thank you! It does feel really good. She is truly being so awesome! I'm wondering why I thought she would take it so badly! ---------- Post added 3rd Sep 2013 at 09:40 AM ---------- Thank you all for your support and encouragement! I love it here!
