I've seen a lot of coming out letters on this forum. What is your opinion on coming out in a letter? Is it a good idea or a bad idea? What are the pros and cons?

I am looking forward to everyone's responses!

Letters are a great way of coming out if you are worried about mixing up your words or not saying what you want to say when faced with confrontation. There are lots of upsides to it like being able to plan out what you want to say and being able to rewrite anything that comes out wrong. Plus you can get feedback from forums like ours about your letter!

The downside is that it doesn't give you an immediate chance to respond to any issues people might take with its content, but this can be solved by saying "Please read this letter and finish it before asking me anything!".
