One thing I wouldn't mind doing (though many of the local ones here in Toronto seem to have outdated websites/links) is going to a "coming out" group meeting to hear in person other people's experiences. Does anyone have experience/advice with such groups?
Are you referring to LGBT groups? Unfortunately I haven't been to one, because there are none where I live. I suppose if you Google it every now and again then new ones may open, or try neighbouring towns perhaps. I know people on this website are very keen to promote them, but they have very hard to come by even in large cities.
My community college GSA was a good support group for coming out. I also got support from PFLAG. It's not just for parents. http://www.torontopflag.org/
I went to a coming out group where I outed myself for the first time. I knew I needed to gain experience in talking about gay topics and I wanted to know how it feels like outing myself before doing it with friends/family. The knowledge that this was a totally safe place to out myself helped me to overcome my fears in small steps. All in all it was a great experience and I would highly recommend it!
Yeah I go to one weekly here. It might be a little uncomfortable at first, but everyone is really nice and supportive. If you go, you won't regret it.
