And yep she will be shocked and worried since I am a 42 yo previously married woman with children ages 14 and 20. My dgtr is gay and my cousin so it's not NEW to the family BUT I am so nervous. Don't even know how to find the words......... She has met my gf and thinks she is a "friend". My gf is butch so its pretty apparent she is gay. Anyway having dinner just me and moms and I have never kept something like this from her. WE are SUPER close. But have been with my gf for 4 months and its time for mom to know. Words of advice ? I know she will be worried and think I am just in a phase................
Could you somehow phrase it around your gf? I mean, instead of saying "I'm gay/lesbian/whatever", what if you told a little story about her and comment how funny/smart/strong she is and how she's fab to spend time with and then "I really like her. I hope you do, too, because I wanted you to know that she's actually my girlfriend. We're dating and I hope you'll be happy for me." This is what I'd call "burying the lead". Haha. Good luck.
WOOO! Well I told her. The FUNNIEST thing ever is that SHE brought it up. Mom was like "soooooooo Tell me more about Dominique (My gf name). I was like Uhhhhh. About that - I told her Dominique and I are more then just friends. That we are dating. She was like OH........ Well I figured something was going on and was just waiting for you to tell me!!! lol. She was totally cool about it. Said she doesn't care what my sexual preference is. I brought up the "rest" of the family will prob not be as supportive "when" they find out. She said Angel you have to live life for yourself. Do what makes you happy. (!)(!)(!)(!)(!)(!) She even asked if I had those feelings before now. So we really did talk it out quite a bit. So relieved that she knows now!!! There IS HOPE people!!!
At 42 that is something i wish to salute. i'm sure you'l be okay and your mom will understand you. good luck.
Wow. That's the best story I've read so far. You should buy a lottery ticket. I think you're on a roll, now.
Cheers, mate! (Is that the right usage? Aussie-wise?) Anyways, thanks! I'm better at advice for others than I am for myself. :}
