So I've started college a few weeks ago and I want to tell the people on my course that i'm gay but i'm not sure how i don't want it to be a big deal. Main reason well i think they should know and I've just broken up with someone (very long story) and when we were on the phone when we were together some of them looked at me like "who you talking to" but I didn't say anything now we are not together I don't know how to say it casually.

Hmmm... You could try mentioning the breakup in passing when you're all together. Something like:
    "Hey, how are ya?"
    "Good how are you?"
"A little bummed about breaking up with my girlfriend but other than that not bad."
That'll get the point across in a pretty casual way.
