This is what I plan to post on FB

Thoughts? Let me know. I am out to about 70 of my 350 friends, but this would make it easier to tell the remaining people. Yes, the vast majority are Christians in my circle.

  2. that's beautiful *tears up a bit*
good luck! I'm sure it'll go wonderfully

I think that this sounds like a good post. It's clear that you have put thought into it, and it does not look like a facebook hack (because sometimes people think that coming out status are). I hope that your friends react well

It's a well written and thought out post. You have laid it all out, and didn't shy away from conveying who you are. Hope it will all work out for you and that your friends will see beyond their faith/believes and accept you.

I found your post very encouraging! I am a closeted gay guy. And my background may seem strange to some in the LGBT community. I am a very strong conservative Republican and am also a devout Christian. I am even involved in the College Republicans at my college campus along with a christian ministry on campus. I am still closeted to everyone I know and I still have not built up the courage to come out for fear of rejection by some. I thought your post summed up everything so well and definitely got your message across! I hope everything goes well for you!

Well, can't sleep now. lol. I wanted to include more about how I was bullied, but I think it could be counter-productive being that some of my high school classmates are my friends. I guess I will bring it up if someone says "being bi is easy".

And thanks for all the feedback!

Well, I edited a few things here and there; it's posted. I did exclude my neighbor. So, I'm out to everyone but my neighbor now.

Well done. It's clear that you have put a lot of time and effort into wording it just right and I hope the positive responses far outweigh any negatives. Keep us informed.

So, I am up to 30 likes and 16 positive comments, 1 neutral one.

The only problem I have had is that my dad called and was upset I posted it to my wall. He wants to dictate my life and threatened to cut off financial support if I post to my wall on Wednesday, he recanted. Now, he comes back and says he thought I would just message my personal friends and not post to all FB friends.

    Hold strong, biguy8.

Your message was beautiful. Really beautiful.

It says so much of what I want to say, may I save it for future reference when I want to craft my own message to closer friends & my parents? (I'd never plaigiarize word for word, I just like it so much & I want to remember it. Also, I'm not on FB, so...no worries there. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: )

Anyway, I'm totally proud of you - and thank you. This is inspiring. <3

Thanks. A lot of this is from Mirko and others who helped me when I originally came out to my parents.

It's really hard not to hate my dad right now.

Oh and yes, feel free to use it.

Well, now my mom sent me a FB message that she is hurt that I came out on FB. She thinks it will affect me getting a job in the future and that I have alienated people on my FB. "Just because they aren't posting doesn't mean they aren't upset. I don't want to have to explain your sexuality to people." "We don't want you posting pro LGBT stuff on your wall. Do you notice how your (gay) uncle behaves at holidays. We're worried if you get a bf that you would show affection and not have respect for other people and make them feel uncomfortable." Total control freaks that think because they are financially supporting that they can do anything. In their minds, financial support=love. Then people wonder why I am so self-loathing....

At the last count... 30 likes and 16 positive comments. Focus on that biguy

It's hard to ignore your parents, but their values and opinions are fading with every passing year. Even people with very traditional values are learning to accept (tolerate) the shifting sands, even if they can't fully embrace what's happening. Respect cuts both ways, does it not?
