hey everyone, i'm currently in the process of getting the courage up to come out to my parents. i'm currently on the other side of the planet from my family and there's no chance of me heading home any time soon. i always choke when i try to tell them over video call so i've opted for writing a letter...here it is so far... Hey Mum and Dad, There has been something that I have been wanting to tell you for a while now, but have had a hard time accepting it myself. I have been seeing someone for some time now; her name is Courtney. I’m sorry to tell you this in a letter but I have tried to tell you before over facetime but I always chickened out. I know this might come as a shock for you guys, but it’s something that I think I have suppressed for a long time. I’m still the same person, It’s not about changing who I am; just so happens that I’m with a girl rather than a guy. I really hope that you can accept me because this is a part of who I am and it’s not something I have chosen to do. I love you both, Hannah xx any thoughts would be appreciated
It seems perfectly fine to me. I am positive that they will have additional questions, but this would be a great conversation starter. There is no such thing as the perfect words when approaching something such as this. As long as it comes from a genuine place, then there is nothing more that you can offer. I hope that everything goes well. Keep us updated no matter what the result is.

It looks good to me. I like that you mentioned your girlfriend's name and you have spoken to that your sexual orientation doesn't change you; you are still the same person that they know. Let us know how it turns out.
Just a wee update, I posted the letter, included a few travel updates with photos and then a picture of my girlfriend and I with an explanation similar to the one I posted above... Slightly terrified ha. Will let you know in a week or so when the letter arrives!
so, after a loooong week, i got a message back from my Dad and it was totally supportive and that they love me no matter what. Writing a letter was definitely the best option for me, so glad that they finally know and also know about my girlfriend
i'm glad they know, they are the most important people to me in the world. Now just to tell everyone else haha i thought i would cry but was kind of weirdly calm about it all. Think i'm still kind of in shock about it all.
