I'm going to come out at school... Help....

Ok, first of all, does your school have a GSA? (Gay Strait Alliance) That will change everything. They can be amazing things, sadly my school was Christian so they just assumed they didnt need one due to NO one being Gay.

If your set on coming out at school, thats a big step. I never had to chance to at mine. I dont know so much how to help you with advice on how to come out, but when you do make sure you already have a good base of friends who know your gay and accept that. Your not going to be without some form of people not accepting you, so having friends to be there right away for you is going to be key. Id also suggest doing it on a friday or before a long weekend / break. That way if it DOES go bad, your not going to school the next day so you have that atleast.

I did this so I can give you a few tips:

Make sure you have your sense of humour! You need to be able to take a whole lot of shit with a smile on your face.

If people see that you're happy with who you are you should be alright. When they insult you (and they will have no doubt about it darling. Sorry to disappoint) you will need to be able to laugh it off and make a joke about it.

Make sure you have a good group of friends all of whom are already in the know. If you have friends that do not know as of yet it might be a good idea to tell them first and tell them that they are free to tell other people.

Just remember one thing.

DON'T use people's reactions to your coming out as a gauge of your self worth. Especially the negative ones. How they react just tells you more about them then it does about you.

Do you know everybody in your school? Or does everybody know you? I don't see the point in coming out to strangers. I'd just come out to friends or people that mattered personally.

I just waited until college to figure it out, then I told just a few people from my high school. No need for everyone to know.

For our OP, I didn't come out in HS, so I have no sage advice. I'd recommend that you just be yourself and like others said, have a sense of humor.
