If there are any vegetarians here, what do you eat at christmas instead of the turkey that everyone else eats?

I'm not sure what to have ~

My mum makes a Chestnut and Cranberry Christmas Ring each year for herself and my brother.

You could make mock turkey to put in the place of the normal turkey

I usually have quorn turkey and vegetarian gravy. The rest of the meal is just vegetables so that's okay.

When did you turn veggie, Ty?

Quorn turkey is awesome. Be sure to keep in mind that stuffing/dressing tends to be made with chicken/turkey broth and some people do potatoes that way too.

Turned about January this year. Working at a supermarket where you had to handle some packaged raw meat made me feel rather ill and I just couldn't eat it anymore.

Where can you get Quorn turkey from? I've never seen it at the shops before. My nan bought me some Quorn bacon this morning, which I found rather funny:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Seems you can get a meat free version of any kind of meat !

I was never particulary fond of stuffing anyways :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
I'll keep a close eye on what my mother does with the potatoes, thanks

Usually in the big supermarkets (Tescos, Sainsburys etc) they have a section near the meat with Quorn, Cauldron or Linda McCartney products. You could probably ask an assissant and they'd tell you where it is.

And yay for turning vegetarian

We usually have a vegetarian lasagna or something like that with ham and other non-meat sides. I usually have the lasagna and the sides. Which is nice because no one really asks me specifically what I want but yet there's plenty I can choose from.

I don't hassle with veggie meats around the holidays. I really wanted some Tofurky around Thanksgiving, but it was a bit pricey.

I just eat whatever doesn't have meat in it. We have rice pudding every christmas, so that's what I usually eat. Rice pudding, mashed potatoes, green beans, lots of diet soda.. :]

A lot of grocery stores DO carry tofurky around the holdays, so you might want to keep an eye out for it if you're interested.

I eat the sides, or pasta if they make it (they always make sure there's veg-friendly sauce). My christmas dinner usually consists of stuffing, potatoes, and mostly of green-bean casserole (my family's specialty). I don't eat huge meals anyway so it's really not an issue.

Sometimes they'll make me tofuchicken or something, but they've usually got alot to make already and I tell 'em not to.

They just ensure that I don't have to starve, haha.

I was veg for 2 years when I was younger (from 18-20) and those Christmases I used to load up on the sides. Lots of potatoes, stuffing and veg, with some special non-meaty gravy which my mum made. I'm a carnivore again now though, and dying to tuck into Christmas dinner properly!

I just eat everything but the turkey (...and the stuffing...and the gravy) which works fine for me, since I'm mostly in it for the potatoes anyway. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    I'm not a veggie, I just don't like meat.
Not because it's immoral or any of that...it just taste rank.

Except KFC! The colonel somehow made meat taste nice!

I always just have mash for sunday meals and things.
    I like mash.
