So, I have told my family and all of my closest friends that I am gay. I am in middle school. I want to take the next step, and be open about it. I don't know how. Like, how do you go and let everybody know you're gay? How does it happen? I have looked everywhere for help on this and have found it nowhere... BUT, yesterday, somebody told my brother that a lot of kids had heard a rumor I was gay, and I am not sure if I should take this as an oppurtunity, or what should I do?????????????????????? This was not the controlled situation I was expecting, and I am not sure completely how to handle this.
Don't freak out. You don't need to proclaim your gayness. If someone asks, be honest, but don't feel like you have to announce your sexuality. A straight person doesn't run around constantly telling everyone they meet they're straight. You're actually helping the LGBT cause by acting by treating it as normal. Feel free to express yourself, or wear rainbow bracelets, but don't worry about everybody knowing. Hope this helps!
Being out is not dressing in drag and waving a rainbow flag. Being out is just being yourself and not denying your orientation. The only people who who need to know are those that are close to you and strangers you have a crush on!
The thing with rumors is that they pass, you'll have another rumour next week. You have 3 options: 1 deny the rumour 2 Confirm the rumour 3 neither confirm or it. The important thing is to do what you feel comfortable with. (*hug*)
"Being out is just being yourself and not denying your orientation." Thank you...I'm gonna play this in my head for the next few weeks...Thanks for helping me get through this!!!
