Well, I created a thread a while back about trying to come out to my family as being gay. However about 3 months later I finally got up enough courage to tell my mother. I asked her to go out to lunch with me and I finally was able to tell her. She was very accepting and she said she loved me either way. So, after that I was able to tell my grandmother (on my moms side). Everything has gone pretty well so far. I just don't think I will be able to tell my father or his side of the family. They are the ones I grew up with and raised me. I just don't want to disappoint them. I know that they are really against same sex marriage and rights. They are also very religious. I just don't know how to tell them.
Congratulations! That was a very courageous thing to do! I'm so glad that it went extremely well for you! At least now, if you ever decide to come out to your father and his side of your family, you have your mother and her side of the family backing you all the way!
Sorry to hear about religion once again impeding progress, but congrats on it going so well with your mom
