I've been told in the past to test the waters before I come out to my family. I think it's a great idea, but I don't know what to do or say. Does anyone have any ideas?

By this do you mean to see how they would react? But not actually tell them?

Have they said anything that raised any red flags? Some conservatives are open to lgbtq stuff but not all. My dad is fairly conservative and he took it better than expected.

Do you have any LGBT classmates or teachers? Perhaps school assignments in the subject? You could mention this in passing conversation and see what their reaction is. Good luck.

Is testing the waters going to potential amaze your future? Will your parents cut you off financially? Will they have a negative reaction? Do you want to come out just to get the stress out of your mental state? The answers to these questions may help to some extent. Try to weigh the pros and cons of coming out.

    I wish you luck.
