    Hey k so
I put insult in quotes, because i have been called names before but i couldn't care less. i have learned to be like "they insult me. i dont insult them back. i am the better person"

but like actually, this was the first time a comment (like 1 in a million) has ever gotten to me.

So i work at subway (WHOO!) and this guy who is a year older than i am came in (i have the guts out of this guy and he hates me)

I was on sandwich patrol (i make the subs, while the other person is in the back doing prep)

He comes in and calls to the girl in the back and is like "can you make my sub? i dont want fags touching my food"

I was like wow. that comment actually made me mad as hell!

BUT next time he comes in.. i recently learned that I am allowed to actually refuse service.. and that's EXACTLY what I am going to do!

    Just thought I'd share

That is unbelievable! And a great story for the people who question why we need gay support groups and orgs like the HRC. And kick his @ss out!!!

I've not experienced it quite like that. I have had homophobia in the work place but surprisingly it always came from co-workers, not actual customers. That's kinda sad.

There was this time with Pinnacle Health Care. I was pretty much gauranteed a spot in the CNA program and told I was going to. Went to my final interview, prepared all my answered and answered them with perfect answers but the interviewer who sounded like some Scottish/Irish immigrant (only way I remembered her) kept giving me funny looks.

I think it was sexism, or perhaps racism that kept me from getting my CNA spot. I don't think she liked the fact that I was a man looking for a womans job. She had that kind of attitude. She had a tone in her voice the entire time. All my credentials checked out too and all my references were top notch as well.

But dunno, might be that she didn't want a gay guy workin their either. That's the most recent one I've encountered. It was really depressing.

If you can refuse service, definitely do it. "In that case, feel free to leave, because you're not getting your sandwich." I'm really sorry the guy was such a dick to you (*hug*)

He's pretty game saying that. If you pull that type of line here, you get your food, but you get unwanted extra's.

    That's dreadful!

Maybe next time you could ask the girl to make the sandwich phallus shaped.

That sounds like a pretty pathetic guy...

But what did the girl in the back do? Did she actually make him a sandwich? Did she say anything about it?

I like Lex's response. Apparently, you can deny someone service,so that's what you should do. I,too,am sorry you went through this.

that was shallow and pathetic, I'm so sorry.
You should say something like 'what are you afraid you're gonna catch something?'

    She did make the sub!

I am actually looking forward to when he comes in next time just so I can kick him out! And if he talks to the manager I have a way better reason than just: he was being mean.
