He's only 3, and he got into a bag of raisins. for those who dont know, raisins are toxic to dogs, and he ate half a bag full. He got sick and I harassed my mom until she and I took him to the vet. They took some blood and said that he was experiencing acute renal failure, and he had to be put on fluids.

He's still at the vet's he needs to stay overnight and we'll know tomorrow whats up, but she also did impress upon us how toxic raisins are, and that there is a good chance that if he doesnt respond well to the treatments hes getting that he'll probably need to be euthanized.

I am so upset. Every time I even think of it I start crying. He's only three for chrissakes! He's my baby, and I can't imagine losing him. I'm just looking for some support right now, and good vibes being sent his way.

i feel for ya alot just now. he does look like a lovely dog. im a dog person too. i had to have my dog put down but she was quite old and its the most soul destroying thing i have ever gone thru in my life. i aint kiddin ya. i dont cry alot but i was in some state that day. i was warned not to be there when she got the injection but there was no way i was letting her go without me by her side.

apologies if that is kinda making you feel not so happy. i have a point here however. being at the vets is the best place for your dog. they will do what they can for him, however if it turns out not good news then my thoughts will be with you. i send you just now my best wishes and really do hope your dog will pull thru!! please update this thread and let us know how you get on.(&&&)

I have a dog too and i'd be distraught if something like this happened to him.

Lots of good vibes being sent your way. (*hug*)(*hug*)(*hug*)

(*hug*)(*hug*) I'm so sorry. I lost my darling dog over the summer, also to renal failure, so I know how you feel. I really, really hope he pulls through.

You have my prayers dear. Even though I am a cat person.

My dog had a similar problem, eating chocolate (i know, weird huh?) and the vet (along with his medications) told us to feed him a tablespoon of cod liver oil everyday and a bowl of coconut water O_O

To my surprise, it worked! You can try it too if you like, see if he improves.

    Hey guys!

Thanks for all the love and support. They need to keep Zacky another 24 hours, because they're not sure yet how his kidneys are reacting to the treatment. On a positive note he did eat a very small amount last night, and he did a big pee, so thats a good thing.

I'll keep updating you guys as i find out how hes doing.

I know how upsetting this is. We had our Golden to the vet a week and a half ago. She ended up requiring surgery and spent 6 days at the vet. She's home now and seems to be doing OK but she's obviously weak from the surgery. She's having trouble getting around - which is hard to see.

    I hope your puppy recovers.
