Who did you come out to first?

    I'm just curious to know to those people who have told people they are gay or are totally out of the closet, who they came out to first and why they decided them...

    I came out to one of my 3 "best friends". We're a crew since elementary school. I chose my first one because I knew he would be the most accepting - he is very open-minded, accepting of pretty much anyone/anything and has had gay friends in the past and didn't care they were gay.

    I came out to a good friend of mine. We are still friendly, although we don't hang out often anymore (not because I'm gay, just because we naturally drifted apart).

    One of my classmates in nursing school. I came out to myself when I was 26; I had been in the closet for 13 years. Once the realization boiled to the surface (the background of which is a whole 'nuther story), I kept it locked up inside and didn't tell anyone for a week while trying to go about my normal life as if nothing had happened. That week was probably one of the loneliest, most painful weeks of my life. I'm so glad that the classmate I told was accepting and supportive.

    I told my current best friend first. Basically I was in love with him at the beginning of the year, I told him, he said he's gay, I asked how he knew, he said 'how do you know youre straight?', I said I'm not.
    And the rest is kinda a blur... I think I may have passed out :grin:

    Well my lesbian friend found out so technically i didn't come out to her, she just asked and i said yep i'm gay. I gotta say though her gaydar is amazing, no one else that i've met has ever been able to tell that i'm gay but she managed to. Then i told the guy i liked, then it was a good friend of mine. The last 2 were pretty surprised but they accepted it and said it was fine which was pretty cool of them.

    I came out to my mom first. I just felt the urge to do it, and did it.

    Well, first was the guy who became my boyfriend. But after I knew it was something serious, I sent an e-mail to my sister (who is a lesbian anyways). And after that, the first non-relative was my best friend during one of our classes, lol.

    My then best friend at 2 or 3 am on MSN. Couldn't keep my mouth shut I just had to tell someone my new found knowledge. Only been out to my self less that a month!
