I've been thinking for a while about just going ahead and getting the whole "I'm gay" conversation out of the way. It's not a big deal to me anymore & I really just want to be out to the world & not have to worry about it anymore. But should I? Or should I wait?
Everyone. I'm thinking about flinging the closet door WIDE open, stepping out, and burning the closet to the ground. I want to be out to everyone. Done & over with.
Then sure. You're 21. Do it already. You might try the simple 1-2 punch. 1. Make some sort of post on Facebook to that effect. 2. Assume everybody knows at that point knows, and proceed to talk and act like they already know and are cool with it. Lex
I like Lex's idea. I think what you should specifically do for facebook is change your "interested in" field to "Men" and then maybe post a status saying something like "good bye closet..." My friend posted that status, without even filling out her "interested in" field, and it definitely sent out the message to more people than she expected. After that, just be open about it to people. You don't have to say "Hey, how've you been? WAIT, before you say anything, I'm gay. ok, so anyways..." Just don't lie about it if anyone asks, use the correct pronouns when talking about a guy you like, etc. And if someone's got a problem with it, try to talk some sense into them if it's worth it, and ditch them if it's not.
