Maybe finding out what she likes to do in her spare time, or places she likes to go or things could help you further. It depends how much you talk to her but you could ask her if she is single or if she has a partner, just in an enquiring way.
I think the more you chat to her the better your judgement will be, you could always try a very subtle bit of flirting and see how she reacts, its always going to be a feeling one way or the other unless she actually comes out to you.
I can tell you from personal experience that the only way to be sure is to flat out ask her. And yeah, I know that's probably not the best approach.
