    1. The changes in culture.... In my opinion. Media, technology, rights movements... all of it is changing people's views on homosexuality.
    2. Religion. People are inclined to dislike things different from themselves for some reason.... and Religion was used to justify their hatred.
    3. Because technology and education becoming more prevalent...

1- Why is homosexuality more socially accepted than before?

A: The American media has had a lot of influence over this, particularly Ellen DeGeneres public outing in the '90s because she was such a sweet, innocuous face on the "homosexual agenda", as opposed to the AIDS-ravaged faces of the '80s. Now we have had highly publicized shows that center just on LGBTQ folks, from "Queer as Folk" to "The L Word". Even though these are dramatized shows, they still show straights that queer people are a) everywhere, and b) pretty much have the same relationship issues that straight people do - children, affairs, etc...

2- why wasnt it accepted before?

A: The AIDS epidemic and fundamentalist Christianity, at least in the West. Interestingly enough, Western civilization really didn't have *that* much a problem with it historically, and in ancient democratic societies, bisexuality/homosexuality were pretty common occurences that weren't really seen as unnatural and at times were enforced by cultural standards, as in ancient Sparta and Greece.

    3- why have people changed?

A: As our technology, science, and education advances as a society, it is coming to the attention of the public that queer people are a normal, long-standing part of human culture, and that most negative stereotypes of gay people (drug abuse, promiscuity, mental illness, etc...) are derivative of their ill treatment by society, and are not a symptom of their "deviant" behavior.

There are always going to be people who are unable to accept those who are unlike themselves, typically out of a fear driven by their profound ignorance of the unknown ("They're not like you and me, which means they can't be trusted.")

Smallmindedness is one of the most deadly diseases in Western civilization.
