I married my wife about 3 years ago in Toronto, Ontario. I am a US citizen, and in order to get a divorce in Canada, either party has had to live there for atleast a year. I do not want to move there and I know she definently won't, so I was wondering if anyone had any type of advice in order to solve this issue or know of any loop holes to this law. We have been seperated for over a year and I want to remarry some day.

You should consult an attorney in Toronto to find out if there are any loopholes. In the US, residency requirements for divorce are strictly enforced.

Can't you get divorced in the US, possibly in a different state?

Why are there the residency laws?
