Why do all the lesbians seem to be green, left-wing, activist, vegetarian hippies who love all animals?

I know quite a few lesbians and all of them seem to tick (at least to some extent) all of those boxes.

Well, except me. I'm none of those things. Am I the only one?!

Tell me, why are all lesbians green hippies who love recycling? Are you like that?

Oh, I didn't mean to offend anyone. And you don't have to be a lesbian to answer this thread. But I need to talk about this now. I feel alone! I will never get a girlfriend if they find out that I eat meat, voted for the Conservatives, don't like dogs, turkeys freak me out and that sometimes I'm too lazy to take the recycling out!

I'm not really any of the above. I'm kind of centre-left politically but not very politically minded in general, not much of an activist, not vegetarian, not particularly green or hippieish, and I do love animals but there are certainly exceptions xD

No offense, but that's a pretty big generalization in my opinion. It's possible that "many" of the lesbians in your area tick many of those boxes. Maybe they just love cute cuddly animals and want to do good for the environment?

I vote liberal, eat meat occasionally, love animals (I'm sorry but they're so cute), and I am not a hippie and I don't dress like one.

I made a poll thread, hopefully it will show some calming results.

RaeofLite, I know it's a generalisation, because everyone is different. But there certainly seems to be a theme going on! And there's nothing bad about caring the environment.

Maddy, I guess you're not really an exception then, although you're not extremely stereotypical either.

I'm not a lesbian, I consider myself bisexual, but I am conservative, eat (a lot) of meat, and I only recycle when the recycle bin is close by (probably should recycle more though). I will say that I do like cats though . People are just different, and you shouldn't feel weird because you aren't a vegetarian hippie animal lover.

People tend allign with a party that fits with their views on whatever issue they think is most important. Often they end up adopting a lot of the other views associated with that party, even if they hadnt really cared much about it before. So when someone is really into gay rights/activism and they see one party solidly supporting them on those views, they're more likely to adopt the other views connected by that party.

There are exceptions of coure, but I tihnk thats one common trend. here in the U.S. we have cohesive Democratic and Republican parties. There are lots of independents, but the majority of people involved in politics stick with one or the other on most issues, even though opinion on things like abortion rights and tax rates have very little reason to overlap as much as they do.

Yay, I'm not the only one! I do have a few bisexual friends who are like that too though, but I can't think of any lesbians. And just to clarify, I do like cats. Especially mine.

That is a very good point! And often it tend to be the left-wing parties that very openly support gay-rights.

I am all of the above (vegan, activist, socialist, cat lady....) but out of the hundreds of queer people I know I can honestly say I'm the only one who ticks all the boxes. I know one other lesbian vegan animal rights activist, but she doesn't have the recycling side (I, on the other hand, study environmental design).
The queer community here shows a clear voting bias (since one side consistently votes to deny us equal rights) but I've been avoiding getting into that kind of discussion because the election is in two days so tempers are a bit high at times.

I am a left-wing, progressive animal-lover, but not a vegetarian and not quite an activist yet. Don't worry, you'll find someone who shares your views; if we were all like the stereotype, it'd be kind of boring.

How about this? lol! I know nothing about politics, nothing at all. Apparently there was a civil election that I did not even know about in town last week. Though I do love animals, since I have 2 cats and a puppy, I am definitely no hippy-activist.

I'm the opposite actually... I'm so laid back it should worry me. I am not a vegetarian - I loooove chicken and fish. Not a big fan of pork or beef, but will eat it depending on how its cooked, and I can't keep a plant alive for the life of me. Trust me... I look at a plant, and it dies - which includes veggies.

I hope that helps change your mind that all lesbians are stereo-types XD ... I need a wife to keep me on track XD

I guess I would consider myself a economic centrist and socially centre-left. The only economic issues that I am left of centre on is healthcare and Social Security and I would voted Conservative if I lived in the United Kingdom.

I also eat meat, don't particularly like animals and I don't recycle very much.

Me too, I don't really fit. I do love most animals, but I loooove meat, I'm not the world's biggest "go green" enthusiast, and I don't really "fight for a cause." :rolle:

this has nothing to do with the original posts but why do lesbians call theirself lesbians and not just gay? what do people make the distinction?

'Lesbian' is a useful word when you want to refer to gay females. I use it when I talk about other gay girls, but if I talk about myself I normally say just 'gay' because then I don't have to define my gender while doing it. But basically they are just synonyms. It's a bit silly that gay men don't have their own word. But I suppose it's not necessary. I wouldn't have any problems if the word 'lesbian' didn't exist.
