Do they exist? It could a male or female who's been called gay/queer/lesbian for the majority of their life that they automatically believe they are gay, but they're actually straight. I don't have know anymore that could be a closeted straight, usually they may identify themselves as bisexual. Just out of curiosity here.
It could possibly happen if someone is assumed to be gay and they are actually straight. Or if the person him/herself identifies as gay most of his/her life until realizing they're actually straight. I have a close female friend who is hit on by women a lot and is assumed to be gay. She started to think she must be gay if she keeps getting hit on by women. She realized she is usually attracted to men and not women. I don't think it's common, but it may happen.
It's definitely possible, and probably has happened at least once or twice, but it's probably rare. I don't know anybody who's a closeted straight (but then again, they would be closeted...). Actually, on second thought, I don't know if this counts, but a girl who identifies as bisexual once told me she's straight and just doing it for attention. Probably doesn't count though, right?
The whole reason that we become closeted is because people are assumed to be straight until proven otherwise, so it's not really something that happens.
This reminds me of a recent Postsecret post: PostSecret Chat :: View topic - "My Friends Love and Support Me as a Lesbian..." It's about a lesbian who's actually a closeted bisexual. I've never heard of a closeted straight person, but I imagine it's possible.
I think it can happen if the straight guy was effeminate and was bullied and didn't "fit in" with straight guys. And hypothetically speaking, as a result, straight women wouldn't see him as "date-able" and his relationship with women could be short lived and because of his environmental condition (in addition to psychological conditioning) he just chooses to be gay (even though he isn't if the environmental conditions were not so hostile towards him.)
The problem with that being that sexuality is not a choice and no amount of conditioning can change one's biological makeup.
Oh oh, just thought of another... If a gay guy is a closeted transwomen then that would technically make him a closeted straight person. Same would apply to closeted transman "lesbians". Doesn't answer your question, but labels are fun to play with
Heh, it does sound confusing. Ok, if a man comes out as gay, that means he likes men. If he identifies as a women, that makes him a her. So now you have a women who likes men, which means she identifies as straight. However, if she isn't out as trans, then technically she is a "closeted straight girl" while the public views her as a gay man. Hope that makes more sense
David Bowie has said that he was a 'closeted heterosexual', as he pretended to be bisexual for the character of Ziggy Stardust even to the point of being "physical about it, but frankly it wasn't enjoyable.'' David Bowie Calls Himself 'A Closet Heterosexual' - Orlando Sentinel Not quite what you after though. I asked a not dissimilar question a while ago: http://emptyclosets.com/forum/support-advice/55649-going-questioning-straight.html
