So, one I start my transition obviously I'll have to change my name and I was thinking William James for a few reasons. Well, I'll start with James, I chose that because I have an uncle that committed suicide two years before I was born so the name means a lot to me and my family. Then, I wanted my first name ti be William simply because I love that name and yeah. So, the issue is one of my good friends' name is William and I don't want it to be like I'm copying him. Any advice? :goodevil:
Use a different nickname. If you are really concerned about it, you could ask him if it would bother him, but of course you would have to be out to him for that.
first of all, congrats (*hug*) you are not copping him, it's a name you like, and it's a wonderful name too Don't think too much a lot about what others will say, you are the one who is going to live with that name and it's non of their business chose what you like
The only thing about the nick names thing is my friend Will goes by Will, Willie and William so yeah. Also I'm not out to him because for me that would be incredibly awkward. Thanks y'all (*hug*) I'll probably just stick with that name and you know, get used to having the same name as him
Well, Billy? Maybe not Willy! Sounds good your combo, real normal and traditional. David my choice 1st name. Im iffy middle name. It could have been Edwin or another one if born with this name. And I feel like I should take the name on that was supposed to be mine. Dale was other 1st name I could have got, oh how awful that would have been.
Are you out to this friend as trans? Because you could always draw him (and everyone else!) into a naming discussion as well. My friends had a blast coming up with ideas for me. None of them stuck, but it was fun and made it very clear that they were cool with me That would also give you the opportunity to see how he would feel about having a friend with the same/similar name.
William = the name of a champion! I have tons of Nick names like: will, Willis, Billy, bill, billeah, little Willis ( when I was young), willie, etc. I basically just pay attention when someone says any variation of William. ---------- Post added 13th Jun 2012 at 09:34 PM ---------- And yes my name is William if there was any confusion
For a nickname, why not go with Liam? I think both the names you've chosen are great and in the end it's you who has to live with it. So choose what you like, not what others want you to choose
