Does anyone find the word "lesbian" weird? Like it sounds like a nationality or something. (I guess it actually is too, cause it can mean from Lesbos lol). I dunno, when I describe myself (and Im just starting to come out) I prefer to say gay. It just sounds better for some reason.
I prefer saying gay as well. I'm just not a huge fan of the word lesbian. They're less syllables to mess up in the word gay too.
I like the association with Sappho. And lesbian is useful in mixed spaces, when you need to distinguish lesbian things specifically, as opposed to gay men's things. When referring to people from Lesbos, Lesbian should be capitalized.
Its funny, I was actually thinking about posting about this topic today! I dont really like the word. I'll use it the odd time but I prefer to say gay.
Just like a lot of people, apparently, I like using the word "gay" more. Though that's actually because I'm used to hearing the word "lesbian" being used as an extreme insult in my country. It's weird to call myself something that I've heard in an extremely negative context about 98% of the time.
