Claiming My Place Outside The Closet

    So...

    Tonight I plan on coming out to my parents.

    My sister told me to wait for her to get home from school so she can support me.

    But im still terrified.

    i want to do this, and i want to live my life happily, but i just wish that it was easier than this.

    Any words of encouragement would be very deeply appreciated.

    Congrats on choosing to come out to your parents!

    Are they LGBTQ friendly? If so, it might be easier for them when you tell them, but it may still take time for them to fully accept, especially if they were not expecting it. But still you may (hopefully!) find that once you tell them they will respond well and give you their support. :slight_smile: It's great that your sister supports you.

    I hope it goes well! I've heard that the moment right before coming out is sometimes scarier than the reaction afterwards, and I hope it works that way. Best of luck.

    I have basically zero experience on coming out, especially to parents...but I want to give you at least some encouragement. (*hug*)

    Hey, Ffirst off, congratulations on deciding to go through with such a brave decision! (I wish I were as brave as you) I hope everything goes well with your parents and it's a good idea to have your sister with you as you are going to need all the moral support you can get. I'm sure your parents will understand so Good Luck!!!

    After an extremely emotional conversation, and plenty of tears on my part, im out to mom.

    And she told me that she always kinda knew.

    Which didn't really shock me, considering she and dad have been hinting at it for a while.

    She took it extremely well.

    She just requested keeping it from our older family members, since their so close to keeling over anyway. :grin:

    Im still crying, but it feels so.good.

    Now about dad...

    Well. Im at work, and dad calls me up.

    Mom outer me to him, and he had alot to say.

    And it was all support and love.

    I cried in the middle of a crowded store as customers gave me tissues from their purses.

    Im so happy right now. :slight_smile:

    Congratulations! It must be a nice feeling, so I do hope you savor it and enjoy the moment...revel in your parents love for you. Rise above the many years of silence and sorrow into the light of a new day, with much peace and happiness to attend you wherever you go. It only gets better from here and onwards....
