I'm a gay high schooler in the closet. I have never been in a relationship but I would really like to. I have had many crushes throughout high school but nothing has ever developed. I have not come out to anyone yet but lately I have been considering telling some of my friends. My entire life I have been friends with mostly girls but lately I have made many guy friends. I really enjoy being friends with other guys my own age and I am afraid that coming out might scare them away. I am currently crushing on this guy in the grade below mine. We are both involved in Model United Nations and have began hanging out (always accompanied with other friends). He is really nice and sweet. And when I talk to him, I just melt in his eyes. I can tell that he is really interested in what I say and never breaks eye contact. One time on a bus ride from a MUN conference, I placed my foot to next to his. He simply looked down and maintained contact. Is this a good sign or am I imagining it? He always asks me for rides and I always try to find some excuse to text him. Lately a mutual friend of ours is trying to hook him up with a girl they know. He only seemed embarrassed and not up for the idea. Also at one of the MUN conferences, his best friend asked if I was gay. I freaked out and said no because he asked me in front of 4 other people from our school. I really regret how I answered his question because I do not like lying about my sexuality. I really like this guy and I really want to start a relationship with him. I would really appreciate any tips or advice on what I should do.

Hey, John. Your situation sounds really cute, actually. I've got high hopes for him the way you describe. Can you possibly get him in private and bring up the "best friend asked you if you were gay" scenario? It sounds like you're close enough friends that you can come clean to him, and it'll give him the opportunity to do the same if he's gay also.

Just make it really casual. I'd say something like "Hah, I actually am, but didn't think it was any of his business." Your friend will really appreciate your sincerity and that you trust him enough to tell the truth.

Otherwise though, don't rush just "being in a relationship." Often times, it's not worth the grief. It sounds like you have strong feelings for your friend though, so pursue that to your heart's content.

What you have to find out first is if your crush is gay, too.

I have only started coming out to my friends, and what surprised me was one of my friends suggested that I try and date a guy. I'm not sure how it will work out, but I will try.

Just try and find out if your crush is gay first. Then, ask him if he is up for the idea of dating. Are you ready to come out of the closet to people? Are you in an environment safe to do so?

I know it has been a really long time but here is an update. I still cannot figure out if he is gay. I have asked around as descreatley as possible and it seems that no one has ever really questioned it. He's friend that I mentioned in the other post on the other hand, most people think he is gay. Over the last couple of months I have established a new friend group out of the kids in model un. We hang out a lot and we go to each others houses and see movies on a weekly basis. I have gotten to know everyone really well. During one of the movies my crush's foot was up next to mine the entire time and I have noticed him trying to make me laugh on many different occasions. His friend has also been doing the same thing. He always tries to get me to laugh and he is really touchy feely around me. He makes a lot of jokes like "but that would be gay right" and he makes exaggerated comments about girls. He keeps telling me that he is going to miss me a lot when I go away to college. One day the topics of gay rights came up. To my surprise everyone was fine with it except my crushes friend. After he left the group said that he was so gay and just trying to keep it quite. My crush also made the point to look at me during the discussion and he said that he had no issues with gay guys. Yesterday at school I sat down next to my crushes friend in the library and his face lit up. It was really obvious that he really liked my prescience. He also laughs at all of my jokes. He also tells a lot of people how awesome and funny I am. I have definitely developed some feelings for him as well. Both guys are awesome and I care a lot for each. My crush tends to be a lot quiter especially around his friend who tends to be more social. I don't know how to approach this situation and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to talk about this in the last post. My mother was apart of the committee for our towns fashion show. I was talking about it with my friends when my crush's friend said it sounded awesome and would live to able to volunteer at it. My crush stubbed into the conference and said that he would also like to volunteer as well. Do straight high school boys like volunteering at fashion shows? The three of us had a lot of fun over the night. I caught my crush staring at my from across the room multiple times and my crush's friend fixed my tie for me which was really romantic (I know that sounds corny). I had some other girlfriends there and they all really liked my crush's friend. At the end of the event I was loading a car and my crush was quick to run over and help. My mom was impressed and said that he was a really nice guy (I have not come out to my parents yet but it was nice to know that he had her approval). Also we had our last MUN conference of the year. It was a lot of fun. One night we hung out in one hotel room as a group. My crush's friend was in his boxers the whole time. It was really hot. We played a bunch if games as a group. For one game "The most likely to hook up" was me a my crush's friend. It was a joke of course but it definitely got me thinking. My crush really did not have a prescence in the games. I think that it was because he was exhausted from debating all day. He fell asleep almost an hour and a half in. Before he fell asleep the topic of pornography and sex came up. I personally am not a fan of porn. My crush said that he thinks that it is really stupid how the girls are quick to have an orgasm. When hook ups came up, apparently he made out with a girl from our school. This new information was out of character and really bothered me. My crushes friend then claimed that he was not a virgin. He left out all details (including gender). Most people said that he was full of bs. The next day we began to talk about prom. My crush said that he had no intention of hooking up with his date. As he said this he put his foot next to mine under the table. His friend said that he does in fact intend to have sex with his date. After he left my crush told me that his friends date does not want to go with him and that there is no chance of them hooking up. He also said that his friend tends to find a lot of flaws in girls and that's why he hasn't ever been in a relationship.
