obsession with gay guys - as a lesbian

omg when i was in highschool i used to watch gay (man) porn with my best friend michael. And sometimes it would kind of turn me on although I'm not sure where i would fit into the equation, lol

 

I heard someone say once that since lesbian media is generally not geared toward lesbians (it's geared toward straight men), they actually prefer gay media because it gives a more accurate view of homosexuality. Even though it's not their gender, they can relate to it more because it's more honest than most lesbian stuff.

Side-note: I think this was in a vlog I watched but I don't remember where I saw it. Sorry.

 

Yes! I cant watch straight-lesbian porn (thats what i call it) cuz those girls are not into women! you can tell cuz when they go down on each other their expression is all grossed out -ugh!

The way I explain it is that most of that stuff is made for women to watch, especially Yaoi. And, well, generally lesbians are still women so..

 

OMG I FEEL THE SAME WAAAAY! I thought I was a weirdo for loving manlove. I'm not attracted to men but when I see two guys kiss and be romantic I think it's so cute! This summed up how I feel perfectly. Lesbian porn is really lame cause you can tell the girls are grossed out and they are just acting like they are in to it. When two dudes make out they are totally in to it. Plus I feel like they are my coach in a way so they are instructing me how to get it on and I'm rooting them on like "YEAH BRO!"

 

For somewhat different reasons than discussed here so far, I'm another queer woman who is obsessed with gay male erotica and (to a lesser extent) gay men. I've published a few stories and posted some thoughts about this.

I've found some great articles online too; they make some of the same points about the problems with "lesbian" porn and many other observations.

 

Maybe it's the fact that they're the opposite sex but hold strong similarities to the same sex as yourself, otherwise the sex you are attracted to.
In high school, I knew I was attracted sexually to boys. Thinking back, I never had any kind of sexual attraction to girls...bar this one lesbian, who was quite boyish in nature.

 

Don't worry about it, I'm strangely obsessed with lesbians. My current iPad background is of Naomilly (Emily & Naomi from Skins), and I downloaded 3 episodes of Glee just to see Santana & Brittany together

 

l kind of have an obsession with them IRL and have had several, well maybe 2...gay male BFFs. But have had many gay male friends in general. l love gay boys.

But l know nothing of fanfiction anything.

 

It seems many lesbians have a thing for gay guys. Very similar to straight guys and lesbians.

 

As I see it, the bisexual woman's problem with gay men is that they're so damned attractive. Seriously. Some of the best men we know are gay, but are therefore completely out of the arena of men with whom we could actually become intimate. Emotional relationships? Sure. Could fall entirely head over heels. Have done, in fact. But what's the point? Dammit! *smile*

This is interesting. I have met female couples who I am not sure are lesbians or bisexual, but they are fascinated by Yaoi and other such things.

I also have to agree on not liking lesbian porn made for straight men. I am pansexual, but I cannot stand watching straight women even kiss each other. It looks entirely different to me than people kissing someone of the sex to which they are attracted. Straight women kissing has always reminded me of the way animals look when they are licking to get food or... ew, nevermind...

 

I found this thread quite interesting, I never realized this occurs. I personally think everyone should love gay men

On a serious note. I definitely agree with the points brought about the 'mirroring' of a more honest homosexual relationship than what society puts out concerning lesbian relationships. That at least makes sense to me in a tangible way.

 

I prefer watching movies with gay men than lesbians in them. I dunno why

 

Yay I'm not alone I love gay men and of course I love yaoi. But The L Word was the first lesbian geared show I have enjoyed.

 

YES, me too. For a while I thought it meant I was straight because I liked guy on guy so much. Glad to see I'm not the only one...

 

I've always been a yaoi and slash nerd, but I can't watch real gay porn and I don't hang out with gay dudes in real life just for the hell of it. If I meet a gay guy and we have stuff in common we can become friends, but I don't have any feelings towards gay men collectively because of their...I don't know...gayness. The gay guys I've hung out in the past, I don't really hang out with anymore. Not because we didn't get along, we just didn't super click. I don't think our orientations were even a big part of it, mine rarely is. It was a personality thing, always is with me. They were just really extroverted and I am pratically a shut in, so it was a no go. haha They were cool, though.

A fag hag is a person (woman) that hangs around gay guys because they're gay, right? They want that whole "femme-y BFF in a gorgeously groomed and toned male body, possbly speaks with a lisp and most certainly sashays" experience? (Exaggerated description, but I'm a writer, it couldn't be helped.)

If so, then I don't fit the description. With porn: two actual dudes kissing and screwing doesn't do anything for me, it's a real turn off with real guys and even with some yaoi hentai, so I suppose I'm in the percentage of lesbians that actually watch lesbian porn and lestai.

But yeah, practically grew up on yaoi and slash. My Aunt is Rochelle Ragnarok, a yaoi series author. The two of us and sometimes my Gran, too would all watched the light yaoi animes together since I was 12 maybe (among other animes because that's how we roll in the nerdhouse. :eusa_danc) Another thing that tipped me off to my liking of same-sex relationships was my taste in fanfiction, too. My first ship and the first fanfics I read were Casey/Zeke from the movie "The Faculty." I rarely read femslash fanfics mostly because I don't ship that many females (OUAT is the new exception of course because all those women are lesbians.) I think it's because on TV shows and movies there's always more dude characters than girl characters, so it's so hard not to put a few couples together out of the loving "best friends" relationships. :icon_wink But anyway, that's shipping talk. When it comes to yaoi and slash, we're not even talking about real life gay men. Slash and yaoi are a whole other, fictional world, one which I love dearly, but can't compare to real life gay dudes, so my love for my ships doesn't translate to my love for random real life "'mos" (hehe Karen Walker said that today on this morning's episode of Will & Grace.)

Umm...I watch RuPaul's Drag Race every year and I generally like Bravo (which is like the new Logo almost). It's like because I've got this whole gender fence-straddle thing going on in my head, I actually sometimes just think of myself as a twinky gay boy. I act like one enough at times. Whenever I think of myself as a male, I want to be a pretty cross dressing male and when I think of myself as female, I want to be boyishly handsome. (Yeah, the gender part of my brain is a bit scrambled, it's a whole thing.) Speaking of which, I really like pretty boys, especially the cross dressing ones...pretty sure because they look like beautiful girls. Fishy queens are everything. Oh, I do like some things about gay male culture, other things confuse me, but then again lots of things about lots of social cultures confuse me, so that's nothing profound.

Hm...I'm not sure if I've responded well to the query. In any case, I suppose I'm saying I'm not obsessed with gay men in the real world, but I do like some male homosexual themed things, so I'm right there with you on the slash and yaoi. Jack McFarlane is my favorite on Will & Grace, I love Andy Cohen, the hairstylists from RHOA are hilarious, Queer As Folk was a good show, and I can't wait to see who wins this season of Drag Race.
