I had my Facebook interested in section hidden on my profile... until today. Today I decided to change it to interested in men. So basically I'm out to everyone on my Facebook if anyone looks at my interested in. This includes my "employer" of sorts. I have written for a sports blog (for free) site for over a year now, and I just hope he's fine with it as well. I'm nervously optimistic right now. Hoping for the best.

Honestly, this probably will do 3 things:

    1. People will know you're gay
    2. You may lose 'friends' because of that
    3. You may find people who talk to you or chat you up because you're gay. This includes potential boyfriends. I should know, it happened to me.

I want to do that, just to spite my new catholic school, and just so I don't have to tell everyone.

I waas thinking about doing it. I wouldnt mind if people had to click through to the about page to see it,

but I was worried that it would show up on news/recent activities or something. I dont want to broadcast the fact that I changed it.

Congratulations man. For the longest time I had mine as Interested In: Women, because most of the friends on my Facebook, were from my Church, and I was scared of what they would think. eventually I decided to just be me. and if peopel can't accept the fact that I'm gay, then they are totally not worth my time. so as of about a year and a half ago, i changed it officially to interested in men. and you know what? nobody cares. in fact everybody is totally okay with it. but everybody's different. but anyways, like i said before. Congratulations.

You can hide it from your timeline and stuff.

Congratulations! I did the same thing a few months ago, enabling the feature and setting it to "Men and Women". Now, about 95% of my Facebook friends can see it if they look at my profile. Family members are excluded for now, but maybe not forever

Maybe one day I'll be able to do this. I remember when I first set up my Facebook account back in 2004 as a freshman in college (back when you had to be a college student to have a Facebook account), I struggled with how to fill that out. There were no privacy settings back then, so whatever you answered was out there for all to see. It then occurred to me that I could just leave it blank, and it has been like that for the past 9 years. The funny thing is I didn't come to terms with my sexuality until 6 months ago, so it's weird thinking back on how I've just ignored it for 9+ years. My only regret it "wasting" my time in college by not dealing with this back then, and all of the opportunities I probably missed out on not being my true self. Plus, since only college students had accounts, it's not like I had to worry about my family finding out, so it would have been easier to do back then.

    Anyway, congratulations!

This is what I'm worried about. If it doesn't show up everywhere I think I'm going to change mine and let anyone I know will accept me see it, and just keep it hidden for anyone I don't want to know.

I don't think it's broadcasted everywhere, it used to be like "[XXXX] has changed the section Interested In" and made a post on everyone's newsfeed, now I think it makes a story just on your timeline

You can allow certain people to see stuff.

    I did it! (!)

No one has noticed yet, or at least no one has cared enough to say anything, but I only did it this morning at around 7 (it's 2:15 now in Michigan) and only certain people can see it.

If anyone else was wondering, it doesn't post it or show up on the side.
