The first time I came out to a group of people was to my Actors' Group. Another member of the group got a lot of the 'girls' of the group to go to a Singles event at a local pub to give her moral support. I agreed to go, then as we sat in the pub beforehand pointed out to the biggest (in the nicest way) gossip/social organiser in the group that those we'd be most likely to encounter there would not be my gender of choice. She took great delight in this, my friend on the other side of me said that she'd ask her lesbian sister if she knew anyone single and then the night continued as a night of me and my friends. It basically just served to affirm everything I felt I knew about the Actors Group, that they are some of the very best people I know. (Having said that, if you can't come out to an Actors Group and be accepted, who can you come out to?!)
