It is still sinking in, but I came out to a really good friend of mine whom I have known for 6 years now. We went for a coffee to catch up on what we have been up to since we saw each other the last time (we live in different parts of Canada). Somewhere during our conversation I started talking about EC (never mentioning it by name) and just saying that I am a part of it. She picked up the conversation from there. Perhaps to make it easier for me she told me a story about one of her friends who is also gay and how difficult it was for him (I never knew that she had a gay friend). All I remember saying to her was that: oh it's clear what I’m talking about? After that we continued talking about it and she reassured me that everything will be okay. She was really amazing and supportive. I never imagined myself to have the courage to come out to a friend in a public place. But for some reason it didn't bother me that people were sitting around us. I wasn’t nervous about it. After all was said and done, all I could think of was how happy I am and that I finally could be myself with her.

    I'm sooooo happy. I can't describe the feeling….

That's great. Right now, I can say I know exactly the feeling. It's great that you could tell her in a public place. I'd think that would make things just feel more natural, more comfortable.
The more people you can really be yourself around, the better you'll feel. Acceptance is a treasure, and I hope you can find more of it among your friends and family. Good luck.

That's excellent. I'm glad it went so well and it's great that you were able to have that conversation in public. As Derek said this experience should hopefully make you feel more comfortable with yourself and with coming out in the future. Congratulations!

That's exactly what I like to hear! Those are the exact feelings that I had with my two best friends once I came out to them. We've actually been closer and have had more meaningful conversations ever since I told them the truth. I think we've become even stronger friends because I was no longer lying to them. Congratulations!

I'm so happy for you! It's good too, I think, that you feel OK about having that conversation in a public place. It's a signal of your being more comfortable with yourself. Congrats!

    THAT'S BRILLIANT!

And I'm so glad that you were able to tell her in person and in a public place - when I came out to a friend in similar conditions, it really was a stepping-stone, I felt, as I'd only ever come out in email before. It was kind of hard though - I kind of went round in circles hinting - perhaps a little like it sounds as though it was with you!

But you are so helpful and kind on here, you deserve to have totally supportive friends in your real life too, so I am really happy for you
