The purpose of this coming out story is not one where congratulations are necessary but are most welcome! Nay, the purpose of this story is to provide assurance to those who fear coming out to fellow friends that are in Greek Life because fraternity brothers or sorority sisters (at least in my experience) tend to be more conservative in their views on LGBT people.

I was engaging text conversation with my friend going down to Austin because I was bored and I had nothing else to do. I asked what was up with him and vice-versa. I explained to him I was having confidence/personal issues (those have subsided by the way, so no need to ask about those) and he asked what kind. So I explained after he telling me that "I would like to make you feel better (that sounded gay but you know what I mean.)" Subsequent to me reading that, I told him in full detail what was going on. In the midst of me explaining, I came out in my explanation and anyway here's the rest of the conversation. R is me and H is my friend who is in a fraternity.

    R: [insert personal issues here]
    H: Whoa wait...you're gay?
R: Surprised? But yea I'm gay
    H: I had no idea
(Literally, some people are getting blindsided when I come out :lol)
R: Well now you know
H: Ha. Idc either way. It's Denton dude. I'll always have your back man.

All this to say: Even the people that are in organizations that have more conservative views will end up surprising you in the end. Furthermore, just because a organization is known to be sort of homophobic does not mean all individuals in said organization will act like sheep and have the same views.

Congratulations! We hear more and more stories of fraternities (and their members) being more open and comfortable with gay people. Really nice to hear!

Yes, this is great, especially for a place as conservative as Texas!

Congratulations! It's wonderful to see that your fraternity is accepting and that you can be yourself around the other members!

I'm actually not in the fraternity. I didn't receive a bid for personal mistakes thus destroying my reputation with them (because of the mistakes) but I have a lot of friends in there.
