After many years of denial, being closeted whatever, I am sooooooo comfortable with coming out. I am laid back about it and do not proclaim it town crier style. Lol. Anyways,I was told today by a lead person representing my employer, that my services were no longer needed. My coworkers are shocked. They say that I am the hardest working person on the crew. I expected a backlash, I work in the good ole boy area of Florida. I am very disappointed in Gibson Electric but consider it their loss. I may consult with an attorney at "The Center" in Orlando on recourse to protect us from discrimination. I will say that this ordeal has made me stronger. I am gay! I am out! I am free!!!!!!(!)
The lead person gave me no reason. He did not say; report to the shop; I knew it was coming. But. My coworkers all agreed that I have been targeted recently and harassed. ( possibly to force me to quit IMO). Some say they will back me up with it . I am a changed person. I cannot express enough to others that are giving coming out. OMG I am soooooooooooo happy! I should have never waited this long. I cannot wait for Orlando pride this weekend! Yes! U-tube. Bon Jovi - its my life
I'm glad that you aren't letting the job setback get to you. As to the whole legal issue even if you can prove it was motivated by the fact that you are gay it may or may not be illegal. Florida does not consider sexual orientation to be a protected class as far as discrimination laws go--however, several counties and cities do, so it's definitely worth looking into. You really are to be congratulated on coming out and insisting on making it a positive experience even in the face of such foolishness. Have fun at Pride!
Oh thank you so much for your kind words and support. 3other companies have contacted me and want me Monday morning.. OMG I feel so popular! ( kidding, I am playful at heart). Pride weekend is going to be so much fun. Time with friends. And..... I dance, passionately. Its in my blood. Again. I thank and admire you all.
I am proud of all of us. We stand united in the face of adversity. We are strong, stronger in numbers yes? We are one regardless of gender, age, out or not, male, female, whatever. I love us all. Peace. ---------- Post added 9th Oct 2014 at 09:29 PM ---------- Hey. Q-tip. That one looks like a stage I was on last weekend,( minus the pole) lol.
I did it! Its on Facebook and twitter for the world to see. The outpouring of support has brought tears of joy! God. I am free at last. To all that are considering coming out,do not fear,it's a beautiful experience.
Wow, that is so wonderful to hear.. I can't wait till I am at that point where I am just so ready to come out to one and all.. It sounds like you have a lot of support around you and I know I would too, but for myself.. I am just not ready yet, but I know I will be one day and I hope sooner rather then later.
