I've mentioned a few times before, but for the many who haven't seen it, basically I'm out to two friends - one I told on MSN and the other I told while we were both drunk. Basically I promised myself to tell this other friend (I'm much closer to this one than the other two, but it's much more difficult for some reason) some time this week - tomorrow's the deadline, and I'm going to a party tonight, he'll be there.

Ironically it's the birthday of the guy that I told while at another party - an 18th so again drink will be consumed (For those that don't know the age of drinking in the UK is 18, so the birthday is traditionally celebrated by exercising that right  ), so it would seem tonight is the best option - shame I can't seem to do this face to face without the aid of drink, but there you go.

the whole situation is slightly more ridiculous as its a fancy dress party - I'll be James Bond and he'll be dressed as Charlotte in Lost in Translation in the karaoke scene..

That's it, I'll post a reply later tonight or the morning letting you know how I get on, and I'll just keep this thread for all my coming out stuff rather than making a new thread every time.

James Bond coming out while drunk! Haha, I'm sorry, but that's so funny!!

I've actually heard a few people on EC suggest coming out with the aid of ale, and I can see how it'd be easier. I know how it can be coming out to a close friend, but what you have to tell yourself is that he is a close friend, and he cares about you. That's not going to change overnight because you shared a piece of your soul with him.

Good luck out there, 007! Hahah, I'm sorry, I just can't stop laughing! Seriously, I wish you the best, and most importantly, enjoy the party!

sounds like the reason why its harder for you to come out to your friend is because you are closer to him (completely understandable by the way) I wish you luck! make sure you give us an update!

It's actually kind of funny that this post is entitled "The Importance of Being Earnest," because I was in Earnest earlier this school year. I played Lady Bracknell.

Don't the hairy arms make it just perfect? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

And good luck with this. Don't feel bad about wanting to tell him with the aid of alcohol. It can help calm you down, which is sometimes necessary. Keep us posted.

LMFAO... that was soooooo funny amp. I am still laughing... yeah, indeed, I would look more or less like that if I had to play a woman. I am as hairy as you are, if not hairier.

Don't worry about it, when I dirst came out yo my best friend I told him I had to tell him something in the weekend and that he should come spend the night. I spent all week dropping hints and by the time that night came around he had already guessed and told me so. It wans't too bad but it was the scariest moment in my life. Worse than when my mom found out when my step dad pointed out the gayporn site I had forgotten to exit instead of just minimizing it.

Ok, well it happened! It was a bit weird; it happened while we were alone on the beach, him with a pink wig and balloons in his blouse and me with a gun and some poker cards in my top pocket; but it was a big anti-climax as have all my experiences of coming out so far has been - Apparently he's known since September 2005 when he saw that my email address was registered in an LGBT soc somewhere on the internet but didn't want to say anything. I hate the internet! But anyway everything was fine and we're still going on holiday somewhere in the Summer, so all is good

Thanks for the replies - the title was that because I thought fancy dress..plays.. and also me and him tend to joke on alot so I did need to be earnest or it would have been too embarrassing. Turns out it didn't matter anyway!

It's great that everything went well for you! Yeah, the net can be a pretty scary thing, if someone knows how to use it correctly. The thing I tend to keep in mind is, "the net never forgets." I cycle my nicks pretty regularly, because of my very heavy use of the internet as a means of venting.

But in this case, I think this can be viewed as a positive ^^ he already knew, and I'm sure that he was honored to have you tell him yourself. I know I feel good when a friend of mine confides in me ^^

Congratulations, and may the rest of your comings out be this successful!
