Talk to him and tell him you want it to stay a secret between the two of you. I'm sure he would respect your wishes and it wouldn't go outside of the room. Good luck with that.

I think he's obliged to keep it confidential if you ask him. When I told a teacher about my sexuality he promised he wouldn't tell anyone, and was totally adorbs about it. Good luck!!

Hey there. As you are in the UK, by law he cannot tell anyone else unless he thinks you are at risk of harm - so as you aren't by coming out he can't!

If you trust him it might be a good step. Teachers can be far more sensible than kids and are generally more mature and open-minded about things too! I found it was really good having an adult I could trust to talk to, and also, as bad as it may sound, if they aren't that great then they still have to keep it to themselves but it is less hard than being hurt by a friend you know well. Sometimes talking to someone you don't know that well is easier than your friends as well- especially if you haven't come out to many people.

Hope this helps and good luck if you go for it!!

If it helps any, i know its the same for where i work (i work at a school in australia if that helps)
And we have no requirement to notify anyone if a student tells us information like that.
Most staff wont say anything to anyone, because bullying is hard enough without spreading stuff like that. Just ask him if it can remain between you and him, like others mentioned.

    Good luck!!!!

I told my English teacher last year, and he said he wasn't allowed to tell anyone because of confidentality rules, and he wouldn't anyway.

I had to go to his office in a free period to do a test I'd missed, but I was having girl issues and showed up crying my eyes out. He sat me down and told me I didn't have to do the test if I didn't want to and asked me what was wrong. He's gay himself, so I felt pretty comfortable telling him.

He's fairly open about it, it's not hard to pick (he fits the stereotype fairly well), and a friend of mine is a family friend of his.

How do you think I should approach him if he is straight?
    What his reaction will be?
    Will he ask questions?
