I was minding my own business as a nurse in the emergency room. A patient came in by ambulance in severe pain. At one point when we were alone, he called me out. He asked me very matter-of-factly if I was gay (he volunteered that he was gay) and up to that point I wasn't out to anyone (barely even myself). I couldn't lie to him but was afraid to admit it openly as well. I told him "not officially". He said he understood, gave me his phone number and we've been friends ever since. It was an exhillerating experience. Thanks Pat. T
yea, i wish i could meet other gays. i live in a narrowminded town so if anyone here is gay, they are in the closet.
That's great. I do not know what I would do if one of my client's asked if I was gay. I am not out and I do not want to come out to my coworkers. Since I am new I go out on the road with a coworker as part of training.
That wasn't Phil when he had his appendicitis attack was it? Seriously, that's a great story. Thanks for sharing.
cool story..im actually on the path to becoming a nurse...working as a CNA right now..hoping to get into a nursing program next fall...:icon_bigg was that the only time a patient has asked you that? and have you gotten any weird looks from them? i work in a nursing home as of right now...and all the old folks men and women love me...:icon_bigg
Hey Andrew, Good for you guy, the profession needs more of us. Actually, Pat was the only patient that has ever said anything to me. Back in the 80's I worked with HIV/AIDS patients alot and learned deep compassion and empathy and frankly suffered along with my patients and their loved ones as they died. Things like that change you forever. CHOOSE LIFE - WEAR A CONDOM!
I was hoping for a male nurse when I went to the hospital to take care of me but no only female, they were cute, but all female..
BoredofNormal, Greetings from Sactown! Wow, you're like, a neighbor!! I'm just a little bit younger than you (37), but have been through the same kinda stuff, even the 2 boys (mine are both teens now)! Being married and in the closet was either a numbing experience for me, or pure torture. Oh, and what a coincidence! My boyfriend, the first guy I've been in an open relationship with since coming out less than a year ago is also a nurse and works all over the Sacramento valley! Welcome to EC and good luck with whatever path you choose. Follow your heart though, life is just too damn short!
There's like no gay/bi guys here I know one guy who claims to be bi but he's the sort who would pretend I know one girl who is bi And that's it as far as I know
Good for you. I wear a pride ring. A nurse (female) asked ME if I was gay when I was in the hospital! I didn't have a problem with it,I was just a little surprised! So,we came out to each other. It was a trip! She even asked me where I got my ring. Her & her g/f were getting married and she liked my ring! Whodathunk?
