Today I came out (for the fourth notable time in my life).

Note: It is Christmas. (I'm in PA right now.)

Please also note my mother is deeply religious.

I'm going to make this short. I was eating dinner with my mom and it was dead silent. Upon finishing my amazing plate of ham, my girlfriend nodded at me and I just let it spill out. "Mom, I'm gay." Lesbian was too hard to get out of my mouth.

My mom dropped her fork and knife and gasped, then picked them back up and proceeded to eat. She then said, "I'm guessing you two are dating then?" We nodded and laughed like the cheeky people we are. My mom shrugged and told me that although she didn't want to accept it back when I was younger, she did now. All because she felt that if I did turn out to be lesbian, she couldn't not accept it. She told me she loved me no matter what and figured that if she was going to love me, she was going to love everything thing about me and support me in everything I did.

Later, my mom and I had a conversation while my girlfriend was in the shower and getting ready for bed. She hugged me and again told me she loved me. We put on some stupid Christmas movie while the fireplace burned... My girlfriend came back downstairs and cuddled next to me on the couch. The movie ended and my mom went upstairs into her room, I just started crying tears of absolute joy into my girlfriend.

And well, now my girlfriend's asleep on the couch  , curled up next to me and I'm too nice to wake her up. At least tonight turned out amazing

Congratulations! I'm glad your mom is so accepting despite being religious.

I wish it was that easy for me. But there's so much to explain about being transgender because no one knows about it at all. There wouldn't be an immediate comprehension like your mother. Mine would say, "Um... what's that, exactly?" and the long, awkward explanation would begin. I felt like I needed to come out by letter.

It feels good, knowing that she knows, huh? I'm glad your Christmas eve turned out well.

Heh, I can't wait to be on the "came out" boat with you. One of these days I'll find a time that's right and work up the courage. It'll probably look not so bad in retrospect if I do it right. Knowing that other people did it makes it easier. Like, nobody's life is exactly the same as another's, but it's not like by coming out I'd have to reinvent the wheel, if that makes sense.

I have a penchant for phrasing things exactly the way I want them phrased. I think a letter's in order for me too, Tai.

Thanks to both of you guys! It feels amazing. Now I can talk about all the celebrities I find attractive with her without pretending I only think they're pretty, haha.

Tai, that's actually... extremely true. Living in Los Angeles, I've met a ton of people, and you know, they all pretty much get it because there's just so much out there. Anywhere else that's even slightly less diverse, you get nothing. It's like, "Trans-what? Is that a train thing?" Ah, we can only hope that one day, people'll be more educated.

I like to think coming out is just one of those things that are just like life. It's kind of hard (or really hard), and it makes you pretty anxious, but it's actually quite easy. If that made sense, it's 5AM.

As for the letter idea, I considered it as well. Then again, there's not much else I would've been able to write before ripping it up.

I hope you guys had an amazing night (or you know, the alternatives) by the way.

This is great!! I'm really happy for you. It is wonderful that your mum realises that love is stronger than any belief. I wish everyone would be able to see that.

That's great. Coming out over Christmas isn't something I'd ever want to do, but it seems like you picked your moment well. And I'm glad to hear your mum took it so well.

All the best for the future!

That's such a nice story. It took a lot of courage to just say it right at the dinner table.

    Congratulations.
