We bought each other rings!!!

    I tell everyone here that coming out is a process - not necessarily a one time event. And that process continues for me.

    I wasn't sure whether to put this in the 'Congratulations' (to myself) section or here. Obviously here won out.

    As the thread title says, my bf and I have bought rings for each other!

    No - we're not going to get married. While it is legal in Canada for two men to marry, it isn't if we're still married to our wifes. We're both only 'separated' rather than 'divorced', which works for all of us to just leave it that way for various reasons.

    However, we did feel that it would be nice to acknowlege our commitment to each other, and traditionally a ring acts as that symbol. (We've both been married, so we both have already bought into that line of thinking.) We've been talking about it since late last summer actually, but we've finally gone ahead and bought them.

    They are matching white gold bands, brushed finish in the middle and polished on either edge, and we'll be wearing them on our right ring finger. (The left would indicate we WERE married to someone, and our coworkers don't know 'about' us, and this would raise more questions than we felt were necessary.)

    (Ordering them was neat. The woman we dealt with was totally fine with it - she didn't even blink. The woman who helped us when we picked them up yesterday did do a bit of a double-take... but whatever! :icon_wink)

    We haven't actually started to wear them yet. We ordered them, and just picked them up yesterday, but I'm afraid I'll have to order a size larger - so I'll be exchanging it. I'll update the thread when that happens! :icon_bigg

    I just wanted to share my story. We're both incredibly happy and excited to take our relationship to another level. I think it's really cool. (!)

    Congrats Jim! Rings are a tangible sign of commitment and that is wonderful. We have commitment rings as well and it is always nice when someone else notices and comments on how lovely it is that we wear rings.It kinda validates everything (still waiting on our laws to pass for that diamond though LOL)!
