I came out to my art teacher :roflmao:

Basically, we have been given our A2 level art exam papers. One of the choices on the art paper is "Issues based work". She said if we are doing that one, we had to make the issue something personal to us, rather than what many people had done about global warming or starving African children.

So I wanted to do my final art exam piece on the issue of homophobia, but wasn't quite sure how to do it without coming out to my art teacher. So yesterday, I just did.

I thought "Hey, I'll tell her about it before the lesson, so she doesn't get a shock". And when I did, her eyes lit up.

"So your exam piece will be an issue that is relevant to you, that's great!"

I think it's quite possibly the best reaction I've had yet

I've always wanted to use a project or essay to express my sexuality, but I never had the guts to do so. Good for you! Congratulations!

art teachers are cool like that... my teacher actually is christian and from what i heard in the past, when she found out about this one boy, she called his parents and told them- she got in serious trouble for that and never did it again. but i think it taught her a lesson, shes a bit more open minded from it by what ive seen... lol rant

hehe - that's funny. Kind of 'you can be anything, as long as your work is relevant'.

Do you think she already knew and was cool with your sexuality, didn't know but doesn't care - or it really didn't register because she was so pleased that your work would embody her 'issue personal to you' stipulation so well?

It's our second year of A-levels, a final exam in which the grade can influence which university you go to. Seeing as I plan to take art at University, I need a good grade in this.

Personally part of me think she had guessed beforehand, but I think she's more pleased that I'm doing a personal issue for my work, unlike other students who just choose issues because they want to seem deep and meaningful doing work on starving African children

And yes, I will post pictures when the work is done (6 weeks time... ulp!)

I see. So it's like our SATs I guess. Hmmm. Maybe I should get into art.

Holly, do you even need to come out? I got the impression that you just strutted around wielding power tools in one hand whilst carrying lezzie damsels in the other.
