so yeh on friday night my parents found out i was gay, i told my sister around christmas time because i had started seeing someone and she noticed me acting differently and going out more etc. She was shocked when she found out i was seeing a guy not a girl but over the last few weeks she has accepted it and weve become a lot closer than we were. Anyway she thought telling mum and dad was a good idea, and so did my boyfriend, and on friday i got my sister to tell my parents, i was just too scared to say it. My mum cried and hugged me and said she still loves me, but i think she is having difficulty trying to understand and trying to be ok with it, i think that she is really worried about my safety, and AIDS, and that i'll never have a 'normal' life, i'll have a much harder life as a result. My dad though has surprised me in being really accepting, and just made loads of jokes about it (in a good way lol, like about me being involved in the theatre and how that should have been a clue).

I never imagined myself doing this a year ago, if it wasn't for ec and my friends and my boyfriend i'd still be living a lie so thankyou

(ps my ten year old brother overheard me and my sister telling my mum, we assumed he was asleep and he doesn't know i'm gay, and when my sister told my mum i'm gay he shouted "now that i didn't expect" lol)

Hey man, thats awesome everything seemed to go really well. I always love hearing these stories. And for your mom I'm sure over time she will start to understand and will see how happy you are, but at least she is still there for you and sounds like she is very willing to try to understand. Congrats!

Congratulations. If you need any help look for a PFLAG (if the UK has them) or gay friendly organization/centre in your area. Also looking up "coming out" resources or books online or in bookstores or libraries might help your parents and possible friends too.

    Welcome to freedom. ^^

Congrats! You can ease your Mom's fears by educating her. Get her the materials she needs to learn about who you are. Things will be okay!

hi,well done,i know it take alot of guts to acctually do it,but the relief makes it so worthwhile and makes you wonder why it took you so long in the first place.
I could'nt agree more about still being in the closet if it wasn't for the inspiration gained on a daily basis from this excelent site. While on that subject i think that some people on here(Lex in particular)should be given awards for there outstanding advice and commitment to helping others.Alot of us on here would not be where we are now without this advice and commitment,so thankyou.

What you are clearly suffering from my friend, is post-awesomness disease. That i where you have been so awesome you start suffering the following symptoms: high self esteem, respect from other people, self confidence and being happier. The only known cure for post-awesomness is to keep being so damn awesome lol well done
