Are you gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or questioning of your sexual orientation? Have you come out to someone? To help others who are in the coming out process, won't you share some of your coming out experiences? The communication that occurs when one person comes out to another is severely understudied in the world of communication. Research is currently being conducted by a communication researcher at Northern Kentucky University, who is also the parent of a gay child. The study is concerned with understanding the communicative act of coming out. You will be asked to share true personal stories from your life about your own coming out process and experiences with face-to-face and mediated communications. The answers you provide may be useful in evaluating what is effective communication in the coming out process and may help people to be better educated about what disclosing sexual orientation entails. Your responses are submitted anonymously. A link to this survey is also available by request to NKUresearcher (screen name). This research does not require the participant to disclose any information that may be used to identify the participant. Further, any references to persons by name will be redacted, or altered, so as to prevent identification. This post has been approved by this website's administrator. YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS SURVEY. This is an online survey that can be accessed at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RV66D7Z.
I'd like to confirm that the EC Staff have reviewed the survey, its creator and its origins, and it is legitimate. I have taken it, and no personally identifying information is collected beyond date of birth and city.
I am bumping this one time in the hopes more members will particpate in my survey. If you have already taken the surevey, thank you! If you have not yet, I hope you will take the time to help me with my research, and help those in the process of coming out. Thank you, NKUresearcher
