So tonight my fraternity is hosting 'Greeks Straight Talks' for our New Members during their pledging. First of all, I think it is great that we and other fraternities at my school do this. It is a truly great program that opens minds.

But anyway, I am going to come out to my fraternity at the end of straight talks tonight!
Near the end they open up the floor for anyone who would like to come out, and I will be the one to do it (unless someone I don't know about is planning this as well...that would be interesting!)

I am so nervous, but I cannot wait. I have wanted to tell the chapter for so long now, and I finally have the perfect opportunity. I do not expect anyone (one exception) to have any problem and I cannot wait for the release that will come along with this. My fraternity brothers are the last group of peopel that I need to have them hear it from me. From tonight on, (for now at least) I don't care who finds out from who!

    So ready for this!

All I can say is that fraternity life has changed pretty dramatically since the University of Texas at Austin in 1983.

Good luck tonight. I hope it brings you the release you hope for.

    Peace,

It was an amazing success! I really could not have asked for things to go better. The coming out itself played itself out so well. The conversation leading up to it was perfect. and afterwards everyone was overwhelmingly supportive. Unfortunately only about half of the brothers were there. but word is already getting out I notice as a response from may facebook status which is simply "( :" A few have meant the world to me.

My brothers continue to amaze me. I knew I joined one hell of a group of guys

Here are some of the status's of brothers tonight:

"I'm proud to lead the best group of gentlemen I've ever met. Go [fraternity]."

""'Name' keeps finding more and more reasons as to why [fraternity] was the best decision ever"

“A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.”

" 'Name' is part of an awesome brotherhood!"

I am so lucky to have them.

Great news! It's so inspiring to hear stories like this, particularly among people in frats which, as Mike said, have not historically been the most enlightened or open group of people

This is awesome - congratulations!! I agree with Chip, hopefully this is showing a refreshing new attitude and openness in the world of fraternities in general. You must go to a very progressive school!

It's interesting, becuase I highly doubt most would call us a progressive school, but when it comes to the LGBTA community, I think it is safe to say it is a very progressive school.
Our IFC (Inter-Fraternity Council) just voted to grant Delta Lambda Phi, a fraternity for gay and progressive men, membership on the council. This is a huge step, I think, as the IFC is a very respected organization on campus.
Things are certainly looking up here! Hopefully this will keep the ball rolling onto more acceptance!

But thank you all for your congratulations! This past 24 hours has been overwhelming with the support I have gained both here and in my fraternity. Thankyou!!
