    So have been putting this off for a while, but dad will be home from work soon so going to sit him and mum down and give them "the talk".
    i'm pretty certain it won't go down well at all but i'm prepared for that i think.
    aaaaaargh.

    Just remember that it took you years to be able to be comfortable with it so it might also take them sometime to come around to it.

    Please share your story when you are ready. I'm coming out to my parents in less than a month (before I whisk off to school again). I need to read more stories about "coming out" gone wrong, so I'm better prepared for that scenario.

    Thanks for the replies guys. It went much better than expected. A lot of stuff was said, but basically my dad just wants me to be happy, he's very grounded and rational, he knows I didn't choose this and he said as long as I'm a good person he doesn't care about things like sexuality...my mum was a bit worse. She just kept her head in her hands the whole time and was shaking a bit. But she accepts it. She came into my room this morning and hugged me and said she'd be upset for a while but would get over it.
    All in all it went much better than anticipated, there was no throwing of objects or crying which is good :grin:
    And for anyone worried about their parents reactions, my mother has said some very nasty things about gay people, and even once said as an off the cuff remark "if one of my kids were gay i'd kill them". clearly she didn't mean it, but it shows that you can't really predict your parents reactions from what they have said in the past.
